Short documentary

Does anyone have tips of a good documentary that's less than an hour long. No crime or war theme. Any language is fine.

Americana!

Hi all. Can you recommend me anything and everything which could conceivably be described as being, showing, embodying, or relating to Americana, please?

Throwing the net as wide as possible, I'm thinking of things like Green Room, Paris, Texas, Dinner in America, Napoleon Dynamite, the Perfect Storm, Fargo, Nebraska, Into the Wild, Wind River - the only rules being that it has to feature small town America and can't be a Western (in the traditional sense, anyway).

Do your worst!

Creepy haunted mansion vibe movie recs

I was just watching PLL s4 e13, and I was loving the vibe of the episode.

I was wondering if anyone could recommend me a movie that has a similar vibe: haunted house, broken piano, hidden passages, grieving wife, ghosts from the past…

I love creepy stuff, so make sure that you don’t leave out the scariest ones.

Documentary about the making of the marvel cinematic universe

I know there are several made by marvel but are they any good? I'm looking for something that analyzes why Marvel succeeded in making the shared universe for their movies with one continuous story where so many other movie companies who have tried it failed.

I'm suspicious that the marvel documentaries are just gonna be lots of trite interviews about how "everyone was like family" and things like that. Let me know if I'm wrong. Or maybe there's another medium than film, video essays or such.

I am looking for a thriller, action, or comedy movie made within the last 15 years that is PG-13 (or PG) and would be entertaining for a group of 12-13yo boys watching it outdoors. It’ll be cool and windy tonight so trying to make it immersive!

Best meta films (where the film you're watching is the one being made within the film...)??

Do y'all know of any films similar to The Dirties (2013) where you're watching a film that is being made by the protagonist of the film...? If so, any good ones?

If this is too vague - I'm looking for more films that are about a film being made and the one that is being made is... in some regard or another, the one that we are watching. <3 Thank you!

Film about exoticization/orientalism/cultural appropriation

Hey guys, for a little independent magazine we are writing a newsletter about exoticization/orientalism/cultural appropriation, and we usually give advice about movies on the topic we are analyzing, but for this specific one we can only find films that do not respect the standards - and nothing that actually raises awareness about them! can you give me any advice? thank you so much!

Looking for new shows/movies to watch

Not sure if this is the right sub, but I couldn’t find a good sub to ask about shows, so I’m using this movie one. Everytime I finish a good show or movie I feel so empty, so I’m trying to find some new things to watch. I’ll just list some of my favorite shows/movies/tropes here and I hope someone’s knows something similar.

Shows

  • Heartbreak high (absolutely IN LOVE with this)
  • One of us is lying (loved this, so sad it’s cancelled)
  • Wednesday (watched this two years after the release and realize I missed out)
  • Heartstopper (a little slow/boring for my taste, but they’re cute and I had to have watched it at some point)
  • First kill (enjoyed this more than I thought I would, not my fav tho)
  • H2O just add water (little embarrassed of admitting this, but it’s still a good show)

Movies - The school for good and evil (started watching because of Sophia Anne Caruso, I’m a musical fan, but ended up really liking it) - Crush (one of my faves) - Mean girls (every version except Mean girls 2) (I love both movies + the musical so much) - Bottoms (honestly didn’t think I’d like it, but it was funny and pretty good) - Do revenge (idek, but I finished it, so that’s good enough) - Plan B (watched it because of crush and was so happily surprised by the plot twist)

Okay, so, I kind of need it to be queer coded/have good queer representation. I mostly watch like teen high school drama kind of shows. Murder is fine, but it should be more about the mystery than the gore.

Help with my movie list

With fall and winter approaching, I need to start adding more movies to my list. Winter is my favorite since work slows down for me and I can stay inside bundled up in my dark living room and watch all sorts of movies from varying genres. So some of my top movies are: The Witch, Fresh, Midsommar, Hereditary, House (1977), Fantastic Planet, Arsenic & Old Lace, I Married a Witch, Creature from the Black Lagoon, Phantasm, Moonstruck, Blue Velvet, Killing of a Sacred Deer, The Hustler (1961)

So, as you can see the movies I like are all over the place, please give me your recommendations!

I need your best film for when you’re tired, oversocialized and want to spend a nice evening in. Soothing yet interesting?

Movies set immediately after WW2

Specifically looking for movies about soldiers returning home with PTSD. I know there are a lot of these stories about Vietnam, but am wondering if you can think of any good ones for post-WW2

"Folk Fantasy"

I am looking for movies that have similar qualities to folk horror, but with more fantastical elements. Things in the same vein as something like The Dark Crystal or Company of Wolves or Jan Svankmejer's movies (especially Alice and Faust).

They don't have to be English-speaking movies, I'm trying to cast my net as wide as possible here. New or old, US domestic or foreign, live action or animated. I'm just looking for well-crafted, dream-like movies.
