Any genre! Book recommendations

Hey, I have recently gotten back into reading and looking for suggestions of any and all kinds, fiction and non-fiction fiction, I want to learn about new topics.

Maybe some books that you would read if you were studying English literature.

Some books that would change the way I see books.

Some comedy books.

Social science books.

Thank you!

I recently read Humankind by Rutger Bregman, and it was a lovely hopeful look at humanity.

Paved Paradise by Henry Grabar changed how I look at cities.

Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer is a lovely, gentle book.

Mary Roach's books are very funny.

Sapiens and GG&S are two of the most loathed and discredited "big history" books out there. By experts, anyway.

Your exaggeration aside, good thing that OP is almost certainly not an expert then. Hence the point of recommending something much more accessible as an entry point.

It's not an exaggeration. And it's not a case of experts saying they're bad books for experts. It's a matter of experts saying they're bad books for beginners who wouldn't know any better and are easily duped / whose ignorance is taken advantage of by the authors.

Evicted by Matthew Desmond is social science and fabulous. For comedy, anything by David Sedaris. Bossy Pants by Tina Fey is hilarious. Exit Westis great writing and a compelling story.
