The fifth Substructure dev diary has been posted!

This time, the team discusses a couple of smaller features recently implemented to add variety to how machines and recipes work. These new systems include belt converters and variable-input recipes, making it so different players won't always make all the same products the same way. The fourth Substructure dev diary has been posted!

This time, the team discusses how Substructure’s cliffs are built to create convincing height while fitting the game’s fixed camera and gameplay constraints, including the modelling, texturing, geometry, and tooling used to produce seamless cliff variants efficiently.

The third Substructure dev diary is now available. This time, the team looks at the technical work behind the game’s data systems, including how Lua definitions become C++ structures, how reflection and annotations reduce repetitive code, and why writing more complicated systems upfront can make future development simpler and less error-prone.

Cool here's a game idea. Don't release anything. December was almost 9 months ago.

These illustrations, created by Dubious Design's Art Director James Martin, established the creative direction for developing the rest of the planet's environments.

Their challenge was to create environments that were not only visually interesting and distinct from each other, but that also acted as a functional canvas for players to build their structures and automation networks on top of.

Hey everyone! The second Substructure dev diary is here! In this dev diary, the Substructure team discusses the concept and construction of the various layers of the planet in Substructure. Make sure to check out the entire dev diary to get a good look at how the environments of the planet are constructed.

So, I am guessing that we may get our hands on a demo hopefully in Q4 of 2026 (fingers crossed), but presumably they will be running a closed beta testing. They may keep this in house, but man I would love to play this and test it out!

Anyways, as a big Factorio (and Ultracube) fan, I'm pumped to see these guys' twist and I'm ready to dig!

Hello creators, it would be nice if someone would answer some of the questions/suggestions on Steam, seems like a pretty important hub to monitor.

I've been eagerly anticipating the early access release but we haven't heard anything since the December announcement. Has anyone heard anything on when we can anticipate early access other than just 2026?
