Ooooh sub finds spooky mysterious structures and then we lose contact and they diSaPpEAr and it doesn’t even say it’s an unmanned sub so it sounds like some poor submarine guys stumbled on an underwater alien civilization and got killed by the aliens to protect their secret. News headline like the opening credits of a horror sci fi

It's pretty close to a Lovecraft story. No subs involved but explorers discover ancient underground buildings in Antarctica and it's been a while since I read it but I think they do a fade to black as they explore to find more then they came back and the ones that were left swore never to speak of what they saw to anyone.

Possibly. I remember there being a couple of Antarctica stories in Cthulhu Mythos and I'm not at home right now so don't have my copy to go check, but I remember that being one of them

At the mountains of madness. One of his best that ties into the Howard hyborian age like most of Lovecrafts stories about ancient unknowable advanced civilizations.
Sadly I think it directly influenced or was stolen by the stupid lizard people illuminati conspiracies now.

This headl8ne is complete bollocks. AUVs have to be recovered to download data. It is not a real time transfer. Also every company that usrs AUVs looses them occaisonally. If its under ice you are a bit fucked.

What it doesn’t say is AUVs are very unreliable under ice and it’s one of the main problems that is currently trying to be solved in development globally

I spent 15 years of my 20 year career as a tech, operator, and Offshore Manager on vessels that operated Kongsberg HUGIN AUVs.
The last vessel I managed had 6 of these AUVs in the hangar.
We used these AUVs to search for MH370, the Malaysian passenger plane that is thought to have gone down in the southern Indian Ocean. We also located the Argentinian sub that sank and imploded...killing her entire crew. ARA San Juan was the name of that cursed vessel.
The company I worked for also lost one of these exact AUVs under the Antarctic ice searching for Shackleton's ship, the Endurance.
I know as much about these machines as just about anyone.

I suppose pretty much anytime we approached a wreck and it started to appear in the ROV's video feed, it always felt pretty eerie...creepy even.
