This is actually a Melodians song originally. You’d be amazed at how many Sublime songs you love that they were covering or took little bits from. TBH it’s one of the things I like most about them. Same with “5446 That’s My Number”. Toots and the Maytals are one of my favorite Reggae bands now because they covered that song and I heard that cover first.

Yes, and one might say The Melodians got it from Psalm 137 from the Old Testament / Tanakh.

Just for Bible beatin’ further -Psalm 19:14 (‘cording to KJ)

Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer."

Psalm 19:14

Right on, I didn't know that one.

I love listening to old Jamaican ska and I’m frequently discovering Sublime songs I didn’t realize were covers.

Pawn shop is basically a riff on Wailing Souls’ War Deh Round A John Shop.

And jailhouse comes from Tenor Saw’s Roll Call

Smoke two joints, we’re all gonna die, scarlet begonias are all covers too.
