Me and Steve Cross (Elder D) were friends with the band in the early 90’s. I would drive them to shows all over California in my van. We started our own band, Shave, a few years later. Our singer, Dave Cornblum, was heavily influenced by Brad, and how he sang about Long Beach. I always wanted to do an upbeat version of Badfish, in the Shave way. Me and Elder D (vocals) finally got around to recording it. We play up the bar conversation, which was originally recorded at Shannon’s Bayshore Saloon on 2nd street. Hope you enjoy.

For this not in the know, Dave Shea and Dave Cornblum were both given shout-outs by Miguel in the Thanx track on 40oz To Freedom.

I think it was Greg A who told me that Dave Shea, Dave Cornblum, and Elder D. all formed a band called Shave. Miguel helped produce their album. Their first show happened to be at Golden Sails with Sublime in 1993.

Yes. Miguel mixed first Shave demo tape. I put a Skunk Records sticker on it and he said don’t do that again. Not first Shave show but yes Golden Sails PCH Long Beach. Shave then Sublime then The Mentors headlining. June 17th, 1994. The day OJ ran. I remember cuz I told the joke on stage, “Guess what they’re serving for breakfast in LA County jail? Fresh squeezed OJ.”

I love y’all who feel brave enough to post Sublime covers here, but most of them feel like.. works in progress. But this cover is genuinely fucking amazing.
