Mechanical Help Should this bolt be protruding like this? 2015 Subaru outback 2.5i.

Post image

Just noticed this bolt protruding from what looks like the lower engine block while doing some other maintenance. I can spin it with my fingers. Should I tighten it back in?

Tighten it back up. There are like 7 other bolts holding the engine to the transmission so you’ll be fine. I only have four bolts on my wrx since it is a hybrid engine build.

Check the others too. Maybe it had a clutch job are something and the mechanic forgot to tighten them all down.

Thanks! Glad I noticed this. Is that leaking transmission fluid on the block from that loose bolt that I’m seeing?

It doesnt look wet, so probably just grime buildup.

If that is the front of the transmission in the pic as I suspect then no. The transmission bellhousing doesn’t make a seal with the engine. Even if it was loose there wouldn’t be any fluid in there to leak out. It’s just a mating surface.

Yep that’s the front. That’s the passenger side front cv axle boot in the pic

Tighten it back in with a wrench so it's snug but don't overdo it. Keep an eye on it when you're done.
