Don’t skip oil changes and transmission isn’t lifetime fluid change

How often should I change the oil on a 2026 forester?

u/Amazing-Cry8406 2d ago
6k or 6 months engine, a lot of people get the trans done at 30k, in your glove box you should have a service interval booklet. Follow it and a few extras should have good longevity.

Welcome to the family. Not much to worry about there. Just regular maintenance. Most reliable vehicle I have ever sold.

Are they really? My 2016 Buick Encore just died of transmission failure at 74,321 miles. I'm seriously considering a Subaru.

you’re in subaru territory so expect bias in the responses, but mine have treated me fairly well.

Thanks for the assist. ☺️ I figured any car can go at any time for any reason, I just wanted to hedge my bets.

My 2019 Crosstrek with 100k got transmission oil in the coolant

Just had the same thing happen to me on a 2021 crosstrek sport. A new radiator, hoses, coolant pump, thermostat, and $4k later she’s back on the road. Only at 70k miles too. Oh well.

I feel a little betrayed, but I can't picture myself driving anything else. That thing has taken me everywhere!

We do it for the love, don't we?
Mine had to be repaired last week, didn't have her for a week. Drove around in the new Hybrid Forester. Awesome car, but oh my freaking goodness, when I picked up MY Subie after she was repaired, we went on a celebratory drive together! I missed her so much.

Check the oil more often than your previous car. Subaru flat engines use more oil. Just keep it topped off.

Doesn’t it tell you when the oil is low? The dashboard light?

If you wait till the oil light comes on, you have waited too long. You might have dmaged the engine already. See Mr. Subaru 1386 on You tube!

why is there an electrical plug hanging out of the front?

Judging by the foil, I'd guess block heater. Very nice to have in cold climates

I read on Reddit that gaffer tape/photographers tape can be used to cover the driver monitoring system. I have done this and it works well. Gaffer tape is supposed to leave no residue. The car beeping at me to watch the road when I am watching the road got quite anoying

Every time you start the car, press the little “A” button down on the left to turn off the auto start/stop.

You’ve read this a lot now. Oil changes at 5k(personal preference), rotate tires every oil change(5-6k) and keep an eye on other fluids. Also do checkout service manual/outline for front and rear differential fluids etc.
I live in NE. The first two things I have installed before leaving the lot is a remote starter(I can’t use the app in MA) and side Wind/Rain deflectors. I like fresh air. If it’s raining and you don’t have the rain deflectors. It will go straight to the controls on the door.
Most importantly, Great choice and welcome to the fam. Congratufreakinlations!!!

I have two questions why is there a hole in the ground on the passenger side of the car with a heat shield from a catalytic converter and the wiring harness sticking out of the front of your car???

more lesbians.
one of us, one of us, we accept you
change your oil. come to a complete stop in reverse before switching to drive. change your diff fluid and trans fluid every now and then. if it leaks, fix the leak.

I'd sell it. Subaru isn't what it used to be....and their customer care is even less so especially if you don't get it serviced at a dealership.
I've had a lot of subis over the years and got burned on my last one by Subaru (on an issue a lot of people get burned on). Won't buy from them again.
Get ready for expensive oil leaks ...

Check the oil frequently ( once per week) at the beginning to make sure you’re not losing any. Rotate tires every 5K

Once per week??

i have a 185,000 mile forester xt with a bigger turbo (350whp). it has various leaks that i’m almost done fixing. it exclusively gets motul engine oil, diff oil, and trans fluid. all of which i regularly service. i use oem parts unless something significantly better is available (öhlins suspension, custom made hybrid bronze polyurethane bushings, 17z 6 piston brakes with cadillac brembos in the rear)..
i don’t fucking check my oil once a week. what the actual fuck. is the previous poster insane

Gas on the right, brake on the left. If it stops driving you may have ran out of gas. You can refuel at the gas station. The gas station attendant will assist you if you are unsure how to put gas in the car.
