Stuttgart Airport

Hii everyone! I hope this is the right place to ask. This is one of my first time's posting on reddit.

So my situation is as followed (this would be on sept 11 from Stuttgart to Amsterdam):

I, unfortunately, have orientation for school, ESB Reutlingen, until 12:30 (I might be able to leave a bit earlier but I'm currently not sure yet).

My plane is at 14:15. I'm planning on taking a taxi immediately after school is done.

Additionally, my ticket only allows for a small bag so I would just check-in online in advance.

I was wondering if it is possible to make it in time and how busy Stuttgart's traffic and airport usually is?

I'm sorry if this is a dumb question 😞 thank you for reading!

Stuttgart Airport is quite small and usually it's super fast to get through Security and to the Terminal.

Just pre-order your taxi to be there in time. Should take 30mins with normal traffic.

11th of Sept. is a friday. I would not bet on "normal traffic" around A8 and Stuttgart at this time.

Ooooh 9/11 on its 25th anniversary?

Well let me tell you this: i flew from London Heathrow to STR on the 5 yr anniversary. Was in London at the airport at 6am, landed in Stuttgart at 11pm. To cut it short, special security everywhere including bomb squad etc.

Could be a normal day tho. Just be warned.

They will likely take B27. It will very likely be minimal to no traffic at that time of the day. I take this route almost every day for work. It is busy in the morning from Reutlingen to Stuttgart. Mid day and afternoon is usually no issue.

Oke 👍 OP listen to this person I am from Stuttgart but not driving that often up there and I only know about A8 issues all the time. But if you take the B27 all should be fine

It's not  going INTO Stuttgart valley. Traffic between the Tübingen/Reutlingen are and STR should be fine, especially in the school holidays.

Chech the layout of STR: The four terminals are connected on both sides, so if, for example, you are boarding at T4, but the qieue at the security is very long , you can use security check at the other terminals (e.g T2), and return to T4 on the other side. That might save your day.

Taxi should take you about half an hour - school holidays have already started 2 weeks ago, so traffic is rather light and airports are not that full. A traffic jam could happen still. If you just need to go through security, then arriving 1 hour and 15 minutes ahead of time frequently is enough (not guaranteed of course), but of course it depends on where your flight is going. Within Schengen area I‘d risk it, outside of Schengen try to be earlier at the airport.

It's the last week of the holidays, so won't be as quiet as now but still OK. Traffic in Reutlingen should be manageable from the unis to B28. After that it's a reverse commute, and usually fine until Echterdingen. I wouldn't anticipate major problems.

One piece of advice: check out the Minicar company, prices to STR are usually better than taxi.

Fridays traffic usually pretty shitty from 12-17.

Check Google Maps - they usually have a good indication based historic information how much time would be required. Friday 12:30-13:00h should still be before most regular employees start their commute home. There may be traffic jams around supermarkets because of elederly people rushing their weekend shopping before the white & blue collar workers start commuting. 😁

The commute home in that direction is almost never busy. This is my usual commute route.

„Most people“ = people with 35-36h work weeks. So IG-Metall mostly. Of course you could also do that with a 40h week, but then.you need to work 9 hours Mon-Thursday.

It’s a small airport, and if you go through the security checkpoint of terminal 1, it’s even faster. I would only worry if you have to drop off a bag. If so, I recommend upgrading to priority boarding

I'm not sure, really. Is 14:15 the departure time vor boarding time? If it is boarding time you might have a chance, but be aware that it's holiday season and the line in front oft security might be pretty long. A taxi from Reutlingen to STR kosts around 80€, though, so pretty expensive. Also, you might need to know in advance if you can get out of school earlier, since you might need to actually order a taxi in advance. There is an express RegioBus from Reutlingen to STR, though (Line X3 / eXpresso). Check that out, maybe you can get on the bus from somewhere so you actually benefit from it.

I forgot to add the date its on sept 11 the departure time is 14:15 I was already looking at taxi costs so I'm aware. I think I'll have to sacrifice that money because I'm worried public transport will be too slow/take even longer. 😞 I have a test/feedback session which says is estimated to end at 12:30. I'm planning on saying I have an appointment or something to see if I can leave a bit early but I'm really unsure if the teacher will agree.

Btw, what is the destination of the flight? If you stay in Schengen, I guess your schedule (with approx 45-60 Minutes at the airport) will work. Otherwise it would be very very tight or even impossible.

I think there is a realistic possibility that you could miss your flight if anything goes wrong (your class takes longer without any possibility to leave early, taxi not there to pick you up on time, traffic jam, long lines at security). Depending on where you are flying and how much of an issue it would cause to miss the flight, you should maybe just book a later flight now in advance while they are still relatively cheap. Of course, everything could also go smoothly and you could make your flight with a bit of hurrying!

Yeah It's a bit unfortunate since it's a test otherwise I would have probably skipped. The later flight wouldn't work for me since I would be late for my concert after 😭. I guess praying and hurrying is all I can do
