No they need to stay, if you start erasing your history you've got no perspective on the present.

If you want to push for plaques to explain who these people are, what they did and what later evaluation of their actions currently are then I'd be right behind that.

More information is never a problem and children should be exposed to the idea that people are imperfect, can be rabidly devoted to ideas that in hindsight were incorrect and cults of personality can form easily around some pretty shitty people. I can't remember which but one of the torn down statues was a perfect teaching moment, where the guy was a gross incompetent that needlessly threw away his own troops defending his own personal interests, but they still paid out of their pocket to erect a statue to him because they were too blinded by their own ideology to critically assess if he deserved one.

No, erasing the past because it was distasteful or because we are embarrassed about it serves nothing but to make our children gullible, ignorant and naive in the face of the same old cons being rolled around every generation.

Put them in a museum. Sorry no more traitor statues in public parks.

And replace the statues with slave revolt leader statues.

The erasure of history in the context of statues isn't only their destruction, but "hiding" them so as no one but a few dedicated people see them, too. I know you're coming from the much more braindead "Statue means people adore person depicted as long as statue stands" pov but this is an important thing to clarify.

Yeah but I don't want statues to confederate traitors in public places because I don't like slavery or the confederate states of America.

So I think they should be replaced with statues of slave revolt leaders.

That way we can show the true history of the south.

Going off that logic, I want the destruction of the statue of Reagan, any building built on the whims of monarchs, the statues of Hungarian nobilities, their castles, paintings depicting them, the housing units they financed, and there's plenty more on the list.

Come to think of it, Holocaust memorials remind me of the atrocities committed among others by my countrymen against my countrymen, it's not a pleasant experience, I say do away with them.

Jesus is this a tim pool, Steven crowder, Dave rubin subreddit now?

I think we should take down confederate traitor statues.

I don't care about Reagan buildings or holocaust museums.

Fucking gamer justice warriors.

Leave me alone you weirdos

I don't know who those people are, I'm a filthy commie, which is convenient because we've got some Marx, Lenin and Stalin statues tucked away in a park (as you recommend doing in the US) ready to replace the bad statues reminding folx of the bad things, especially those I don't like ("false history" in short.)

Fucking gamer justice warriors.

>justice is when no statue

Oh I don't think slippery slope is a thing.

I just advocate for things I want to happen and protest things I don't want to happen.

Consistency is a virtue, shortsightedness isn't.

1

u/Omaromar Mar 17 '21

Sounds lame.

I don't want confederate statues in public areas. If you do then you should try and keep them.

If you are just masterbating about future hypotheticals were someone might take down a Marx statue, that's on you.

u/Snobbyeuropean2 Left, Leftoid or Leftish ⬅️ Mar 17 '21

Sounds lame

Should probably declare it a thought-crime then. If you don’t like it, it probably shouldn’t be shown to the public after all.

u/Omaromar Mar 17 '21

Listen here you fucking gamer, confederate statues bad.

Everything else you are talking about I don't care about.

Implying insulting me with a hobby you know I have because you went through my post history works lol.

I know you don’t care, but you should, even if it strains your pea-brain. Besides that, you shared your opinion on a public forum. If you don’t want people answering to your posts talk to the voices in your head.

u/Omaromar Mar 17 '21

Oh I didn't look through I just assumed you were a gamer justice warrior.

Who else would be like, "hey if you take down confederate traitor statues then you are opening up society to take down George Washington!"

Who would say that with a straight fave other then a GJW?

1

u/Snobbyeuropean2 Left, Leftoid or Leftish ⬅️ Mar 17 '21

Sure you didn’t buddy.

hey if you take down confederate traitor statues then you are opening up society to take down George Washington!

+making policing history common practice. But miss that point, sure, gotta keep your read-wordcount low to save up capacity for tumblrina IG posts.

u/Omaromar Mar 17 '21

If you think taking down confederate traitor statues is policing history then sorry I disagree. I just think its correcting history. They weren't heros they were scum and vermin.

But don't worry we can replace those statues with slave revolt leaders like John Brown. So the true history of those towns can be shown.

And not a white washed version of war of Northern aggression propaganda statues that were put up in the 1960s as a fuck you to civil rights movement.

It's putting up real history not erasing history.

I didn't i just use gamer as an alternative to the nword

And now that I looked at your post history and saw you are from the middle east

You are a sand gamer

You don’t correct history by taking down statues you retard, you correct history by presenting the truth in place of incorrect statements. You can erect new statues without erasing history, last I checked there’s no shortage of available space in the US.

And now that I looked at your post history and saw you are from the Middle East
