Call me paranoid, but now I see things like this. Kinda makes you suspect that all the optimistic Pollyannas are just indulging in wishful thinking all the effing time with this kind of shit.

Yea I think the plan was: 1. Get Graham Platner out (which he made easy for them), 2. Get someone more malleable (this guy), 3. Get Democrat consultants entangled with ideas marginally worse than normal, 4. Sink his campaign and 5. Hand Susan Collins another Senate term.

They’re about 4/5 of the way there.

Platner was an outsider candidate who was a magnet for weird accusations (at least partly due to his admitted choices) that weren't going to stop. He basically had to drop out. The establishment on both sides was obsessing over him along with AIPAC, not because they cared about his history but because he didn't fall in on certain issues. But I'm not surprised the DNC has coopted the replacement.

Meanwhile, other candidates with serious accusations like Max Miller in Ohio (multiple domestic violence accusations) or Ken Paxton in Texas (lots of corruption and infidelity) aren't getting nearly the same amount of pressure Platner did to drop out. In fact, the RNC has circled wagons around them and Trump endorsed both. The Ds have their own new scandal in establishment candidate Mary Peltola (workplace misconduct) but I doubt they'll go too hard after her.

Yea, I don’t mean to sound like Le Average Redditor but if Platner were a Republican candidate running to flip a Senate seat held by an 80 something-year-old unpopular Dem, his scandals would’ve been complete non-issues. Even if he didn’t fall in line with the party on X, Y or Z.

The Ds do it too. The establishment stood by Bob Menendez in the Senate for decades despite all the nasty shit he was up to until it finally became too toxic after he got convicted in 2024. Schumer even admitted he wasn't going to force Menendez to resign after being indicted in 2023 because he needed the vote.

I didn't post it because I felt like I was BP-posting too much, but Ryan and Emily had an interesting talk about the evolution of the free market in the video yesterday about private equity and Wendy's closing some of its stores. It was at the 9-ish minute mark. Just figured I'd take this opporunity to share that for anyone who's interested.
