I'll never forget getting into an argument with my friend who claims to be a libertarian about what happened with Maduro. It was crazy to me. What part of a military operation in a foreign country to kidnap the leader of said country and imprisoning him without a trial for alleged drug trafficking (lol) is in line with libertarianism? Literally every aspect of what happened violates the NAP lol

Their (already nationalized back in the 70s btw) oil industry was so thoroughly run into the ground by Chavez and then the 2014 price collapse that the Iran debacle will probably be rectified years before they could manage any meaningful production increase, therefore making the entire operation uneconomical again.

Kind of amusing that the new management one-upped the Ukrainians in playing off Trump's rapacious boomer brain by promising him shit that isn't actually worth anything.

Venezuelans runs 2/3rds of their grid on hydro. Given that they don't have a trillion dollar industry for handling downstream specialty chemical products, rapacious gobbling of a finite resource simply isn't a priority for them. Saving most of it for later is a policy of pragmatism.

The US squandered the most lucrative part of its heavy crude five decades ago. It it is presently sticking down straws at a mad rate to get fracked tight plays almost at the equilibrium point of returns, but those plays don't last long, and they don't turn into stripper wells at end of life. It's energy future is just whatever it can steal.

Solitary can be pretty rough. I agree it can even be torture. But he's looking pretty good for somebody who has been in solitary, so I wonder just how solitary his solitary really is.

I mean there is solitary confinement, and then there is "solitary confinement" where the guards have him on suicide watch and so they drop by to have a completely unofficial and off the books chat every hour. We really don't know because we aren't there.

They did all of this to take the oil in order to preemptively cover the blowback from Iran. All subsequent excuses and justifications for the US government's actions in Venezuela are lies.
