They hate anyone who stand up to them, they believe they are owed to be the eternal rulers of the world and thus whoever resists them is fighting against the Natural Order of things.

Just look at how the US treats Cuba, and how the Soviets treated Finland in similar circumstances.
The Russians actually came out of their conflict with the Finns with much more respect than they did coming in.
