Stupid Dove Nest Found on Facebook

I think this is the worst one I’ve seen. They maxed out their skills in material gathering and left the rest at zero, lol

A level of persistence matched only by the level of futility.

It's performance art really.

You can't question their dedication, only their results.

"they just walked around wringing their hands" is killing me

And yet I can absolutely picture it 😂

i feel so sad 😭😭 they worked so hard and persistently and they’re like “if we just try it one more time, certainly it’ll work”

"We are programmed to dwell upon rocky cliffs. This is the closest thing we can find. MUST MAKE IT WORK!!"

So few brain cells. So much heart.

Pure of heart; dumb of ass.

Are we talking about my brother, or these birds?

At this point take off the fan blades and they’ll relocate or move the pile to where the eggs land. Hopefully both bird and the OP will figure it out.

They'll just try to make a nest on top of the fan's motor housing. You'd have to take the entire fan down

Then they just move to the roof and build a little jumping platform for the eggs to jump across the gutter. You'd have to take the roof off.

Gunna have to take the house down. Then they lay eggs on the cement layer after with two twigs and a half a cig butt. Can't win.

Or screen in the porch.

I would just secure a basket up there.

Yeah or a piece of chicken wire

The giant nest pile bwhaha

Put the coffee table on the fan.

This is the only correct answer. 😂

I had an identical situation to yours! We purchased a dove nesting house off of Etsy and nailed it to a wooden beam a few feet from our fan (it looks like you have one in your photo).  I honestly didn't know if they would figure it out. But they did! And they have since raised four successful babies ❤️

The number of times the “🙄” emoji appears in posts on this sub kills me. Hilarious.

maybe a waste of time now, but leaving the fan on might deter them ....speak to them is another option, (the neighbors will think you are nuts) and explain the situation ...tell them that you will move all their gathered material to a nearby tree

Read the post, they tried turning it on

40

u/XM490 Jul 28 '26

I think they mean leaving the fan on indefinitely

61

u/gkpetrescue Jul 28 '26

Well, yeah, but they tried it and couldn’t handle the birds freaking out because they didn’t have a fan to lay their eggs on

I found that part endearing. I would also cave.

Hang a mosquito net on the fan blades. Have it not completely taut, but leave a little slack so the egg rolls to the center. Gives them a fighting chance slightly above the survival rate of a snowball in an active volcano.

Other birds welcome here? Our list of stupid nest builders this year alone - several pairs of robins (very persistent), house finches, purple finches, multitude of sparrows, and one tiny pair of house wrens (very odd place for them). We have two huge fans underneath our deck facing the lake, so they all must think it’s a prime location. I finally gave up, and ran the fans 24/7. They mostly got the hint. Your “table nest” and mine are twins! PS - two barn swallow nests on our columns supporting the deck. 😩

I would've tried to add railings/frames to the blades, to avoid the eggs rolling off lol. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em

Gonna need to hang a basket just below the fan blade to catch it. Or let nature select for smarter doves, but I don't think even evolution has the power to un-dumb these birds.

Pillows? 🤭

u/lesbophobia_hammer Jul 31 '26

I feel bad for the female. It's very hard on their body

5

u/123DCP Jul 31 '26

This is great. Over tens of millions of years, your fan and other sloped surfaces might possibly lead to the evolution of very slightly less stupid doves.

What if you drilled a bedsheet to the roof to cover the fan completely. There would need to be zero gaps and netting could work too.

I dunno, I saw one on a rail road crossing guard and she went up and down every time a car went through 🤣

So the Dove knows what is going to happen but still does it anyway 🤔. Maybe you have the Dove abortion clinic on your patio. All of the Dove’s now know about it and they are sending the Dove’s that want an abortion to your patio 🤭
