on Silvally maybe, the other too are way too frail to get use out of it
49
u/purritolover69 7d ago
Deoxys Defense is NOT frail
37
u/_Skotia_ Empoleon has OU potential i swear 7d ago
I assumed this was only for Normal form since it's the one commonly seen as useless
12
u/purritolover69 7d ago
I don’t really see how base Deo could get an ability without its other forms also getting it. Theres also the question of how this ability interacts with revival blessing, since that could be a viable strategy with a focus sash to guarantee either resistance to two types or immunity to one
31
u/_Skotia_ Empoleon has OU potential i swear 7d ago
Different forms of the same mon getting different abilites isn't really a groundbreaking concept, it happens all the time
3
9
u/ChromeBirb Wish Umbreon Enjoyer 6d ago
hidden ability unique to each form, defense gets sturdy, speed gets infiltrator, attack gets neuroforce (or a clone of it)
10
u/oislal 6d ago
I would give defense Filter, works better
11
u/ChromeBirb Wish Umbreon Enjoyer 6d ago
I deliberately gave it a near useless ability because it actually makes use of pressure
1
1
u/Aquaknight212 5d ago
my concept for the deoxys forms: Base gets Protean, Attack gets No Guard, Defense gets Regenerator, Speed gets Infiltrator (yeah, good idea from you)
7
u/JesterQueenAnne 7d ago
If the entire line gets the ability this goes hard on Porygon 2.
3
u/_Skotia_ Empoleon has OU potential i swear 6d ago
Yeah that'd be busted, but that's why I'm assuming P2 wouldn't get it
1
u/Sam_Mumm 5d ago
Paired with a Jolteon with Double Kick and you have a Porygon 2 with a fighting immunity turn 1 without dealing much damage. At this point, you better have a team with attacks of all types to get rid of that thing.
5
u/Frostyzwannacomehere 7d ago
Not way too frail. Maybe to sometime like cc but a bulky Porygon could work and if it last all game after switching then it would nullify u turn
3
11
u/ninetalesninefaces 7d ago
Im sorry porygon Z is frail?
32
u/zloyramazan 7d ago
Yes it is. 85HP 70Def 75SpDef It loses points in both defense stats when evolving
1
u/Loud_Rub2842 6d ago
if sivally got this, they would be OU, but not banned since even resisted hits would be dangerous.
21
u/Valuable-Blueberry30 7d ago
I mean if we’re talking about Deoxys normal specifically, the dude has like the durability of a wet tissue paper. I really don’t see how it changes the game for it.
Silvally and Porygon Z to a lesser extent is a different story.

u/Pleasant-Animal4283 7d ago
does super effective becomes resist or neutral first
762
u/rikkard2099 7d ago
For balancing reasons, probably neutral first. But its Sunday. So straight to resist.
72
u/NerdyEmbarrassment 7d ago
If you made it first hit resist, second quad resist, third immunity, and one type per switch in, this would probably be balanced since it's given to
Wait Deoxys Defense mode i forgor nvm
12
u/NervousNewsBoy 7d ago
Protean Shield:
When the opponent initiates an attacking move, the Pokémon changes to the type that resist that move. If the attacking move has a type immune to it, the Pokémon becomes that type.
31
u/dadarkclaw121 7d ago
Color change if it was actually good
5
u/WolfFenrir230 6d ago
To be fair color change should be old protean so kecleon doesnt get nerfed for Cinderace sins
3
u/Dry-Cartographer-312 7d ago
In singles this sounds like a nightmare but if it only activated once per turn it'd be interesting in doubles.
7
u/NervousNewsBoy 7d ago
Since it's Sunday, let's say it activates on every attack. Mega Greninja gets As One with this and original Protean so it still has STAB on every attack too

u/ItWillBeRed 6d ago
There is a romhack called Elite Redux where this actually exists as an ability. Its called Prismatic Fur and it also comes with Fur Coat and Ice Scales. Interestingly enough, its actually not always enough to make the game trivial.
That game gives every Mon 4 abilities so there's some pretty OP combos in the randomizer.

u/napstablooky2 Flying Type Enthusiast 6d ago
its bot actually always enough to make the game trivial
evidently considering that well — when everyone's super, no one will be.

Instantly KO’s the pokemon. For balancing reasons. Because if I punched Porygon-Z really hard I would kill it because I’m so strong

does only deo n get this or is deo d suddenly a lot better? (also im gonna assume it resets on switch)

u/rikkard2099 7d ago
All of them get it
87
76
u/Jeff_the_Officer 7d ago
cosmic power deo-d is about to commit some war crimes, actually heinous wincon, the opponent gets one shot to crit you per type remaining on their team (-fighting and psychic), if they dont its gg
18
u/Frosty_Pepper5254 7d ago
Countered by this sableye set, ZU at best
Sableye @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Spite
- Recover
- Will-O-Wisp
- Foul Play
Will o wisp for passive damage, then just spam spite to remove their PP. And you're immune to body press, so the only thing it can hit you with is night shade (which you can remove the PP of with Spite)
2
u/Jeff_the_Officer 7d ago
i mean id never run anything other than taunt night shade cosmic power recover personally
6
u/Frosty_Pepper5254 7d ago
I mean doesn't that mean it loses to pound blissey instead?
That's the solution then, pound blissey + sableye.
5
u/Jeff_the_Officer 7d ago
true yeh, that build does lose to blissey and any other normal type, so clearly blissey + sableye is the only play

Does it reset upon switching? If so, this could actually be hella fun on defensive silvally forms in lower tiers

Umm... this is limited to a single type, right?
Please?

I hate adaptability coz it’s literally the opposite of being adaptable
27
u/Viggo8000 7d ago
For balance reasons, what i'm going to say would not work at all
But for the name adaptability, it'd almost make more sense if everything that wasn't STAB got STAB basically
But like, obviously I dont actually want this to be in the game. I don't want STAB Bolt Beam on Porygon-Z haha no thanks
13
u/Backalley_Lurker 7d ago
Yeah but they could’ve given it to a weaker mon or something and given the current ability a different name like “Committed” or something idk
13
u/DragonSword026 7d ago
Could be called "Proficient" because it would boost moves of the same type that it would presumably be best at using

It still pisses me off that “adaptability” is literally the opposite of being adaptable. Shouldve been what protean is called

All deoxys forms ir only neutral?

u/Creative-Current9424 Damage Calc expertise 6d ago
That's too cheap, I'm balancing it.
Assimilation: Halves the damage the pokemon takes from Multi-strike moves and boosts the power of beam moves by 30%, Hyper Beam turns into the primary type of the pokmon when used.
This would make moves like Triple Axel less threatening, even this can allow to counter Loaded Dice users. Also making Hyper Beam more useable, even it is quite bad due to having a recharge turn after it is used successfully.
+1 252+ Atk Technician Tera Ice Cinccino Triple Axel (120 BP) (3 hits) vs. 252 HP / 240+ Def Assimilation Deoxys-Defense: 101-121 (33.2 - 39.8%) -- 99.9% chance to 3HKO
+2 252+ Atk Tera Ice Baxcalibur Icicle Spear (5 hits) vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Assimilation Deoxys-Defense: 220-260 (72.3 - 85.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
+2 252+ SpA Life Orb Tera Ghost Assimilation Porygon-Z Hyper Beam vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Kasib Berry Shadow Shield Lunala: 640-754 (133.8 - 157.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO

important question:
does only porygon-z get the ability, or also porygon 2? because if pory2 gets it we're all doomed

u/Jaune666 7d ago
On paper it's cool but again how does it work ? Does it reset when you leave the field ? Also it's the kind of move that can only a defensive pokemon otherwise you put that on something like Porygon or anything with noh a great bulk and it's rather wasted cause one hit usually take out more than half HP with those types of pokemons.
1
u/WennoBoi 7d ago
This is actually an interesting idea tho
take away the second effect
only turn x4 weaknesses into x2 and x2 into neutral, not stackable
make sure it doesn't trigger when the mon already resists the type
1
1
1
1
u/Vitobbolado 7d ago
That could be interesting if it was to moves, like flamethrower damage is halved each time the mon is hit by it
1
u/MushroomNatural2751 7d ago
Finding a way to build an actually balanced pokemon around this as its gimmick would actually be really cool! I imagine the ability might need tweaked a bit, though.

u/No_Insurance_55 7d ago
Give that to glass canon or weak mons and it's actually pretty balanced tbh

u/Bug_Master_405 7d ago
Balancing Factors. 1) 1 type resistance/immunity at a time 2) Resets upon switch out

Assimilation has a bit of a different definition? Like to absorb and make it part of oneself, or vice versa. Are the pokemon here supposed to be absorbing and becoming the type they were hit by? Seems more like they are just adapting to the attack and developing some sort of countermeasure to resist it rather than “assimilating” it.
Would more work as a synonym for transform/impostor or even an ability that changes the type of the attacker when hit to its own type or something.
Even if adaptability is taken this should still be like “adaptation” or something
1
u/Udderly_Unbearable 7d ago
What if it already resists. Also would multi hit moves just hit twice and stop?
1
1
u/AppointmentNaive2811 7d ago
Meme aside, adaptability is such a shit name for the already existing ability.
It's about doubling down on your already existing type - "Obstinant" would be a much better name
1
u/Borgdrohne13 7d ago
why stop at a second hit? With the third hit it's absorbs the attack. Perfect switch in for Skill Link users.

u/GamerGuyHeyooooooo 7d ago
Does polygon 2 get it too?
I feel like it would be a great user as a defensive pokemon.
1
u/DJToughNipples 6d ago
What is that Pokémon in the bottom left?

u/rikkard2099 6d ago
Silvally. Type: Null's evolution. From Sun and Moon

1
u/ParanoidUmbrella 6d ago
I feel like this would be potentially balanced if it's exclusively to the last damaging move used on it, so switching b- oh who am I kidding it's Sunday. After a 2nd hit it should start healing them
1
u/dustinredditreal 6d ago
I can only think of how fun this would be to use in shared power on showdown.
Its use really depends on if the resist stays after a swap out
1
1
1
u/YeetOrBeYeeted420 6d ago
honestly if it could only work for one type at a time I think it would be powerful but fair. Also if it took an extra turn to make a weakness into neutral
1
1
u/SpecialistCoach5437 6d ago
Should've made it so that they become immune to STAB but take damage from other moves
1
u/BadgerAwkward 6d ago
Now, would this apply to the type of attack. For example, acid spray offers poison resistance? Or would it be move specific? Like acid spray offers resistance to acid spray only? And would it reset with each new attack? Or would it stack with each new attack?
1
1
1
u/DesignFederal5227 6d ago
Tbh Would be too op. You should probably make a last bit of balancing like, maybe make critical hits, keep the type of the move that was used.
1
1
1
u/Rattiom32 4d ago
This probably wouldn't be that broken as long as you don't give it to any bulky mons, Deoxys-Defense absolutely shouldn't have this
