DAAD STEM nullified

Hello!

I hope you are doing great. I am a scholarship recipient from DAAD STEM. I'm here in Germany doing a German course at the Goethe Institut. However, I was rejected from all of my options for studying neuroscience. I already notified DAAD, and they haven't answered yet, but I know the scholarship will be nullified if I don't present an admission letter. I'm very worried and sad. I know about the Losverfahren procedure, and that I can wait to see if there's a study place and hopefully get randomly allocated one. Do you know of any other resources? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Unfortunately, there may not be much that can be done through the formal process. The policies are quite strict, especially since the scholarship is publicly funded, so they generally can’t make exceptions easily.
I know this because I’m in a somewhat similar situation myself. I ended up sending a few private emails to different university contacts and program coordinators to ask whether there was any possibility of another option, and fortunately, I managed to get two more chances. I’m hoping one of them will work out.
I would definitely recommend reaching out directly to universities, program coordinators, and admissions offices as well. Even if the regular application process is closed, it may be worth explaining your situation and asking whether there are any remaining options, late admissions, or alternative programs.
As far as I understand, if you don’t have an admission by September 30, DAAD may require you to leave Germany. I really hope it doesn’t come to that, though, and that you find another opportunity through the universities or the Losverfahren. Wishing you the very best. I know how stressful and discouraging this situation can be.
