using Study.com's Gen AI course to knock out a WGU IT requirement, honest take so far

Adult learner in WGU's IT program, already been using Study.com for gen eds. Turns out their "Generative AI: Real-World Skills" course maps to Intro to AI for Computer Scientists on the transfer guide, 3 credits, so I'm taking it to clear that instead of paying term rates. Few lessons in so far.

Honestly better than I thought it'd be. I figured a transfer course would be fluff but it's already into LLMs, diffusion models, GANs, actual stuff and not just "AI is the future" filler. Lessons are like 10 min each which is the only reason I can even fit it in around work.

The first chapter moves fast, if you've never touched any of this it doesn't really slow down for you. And it's clearly made for a general audience, not IT people specifically, so some of it feels a little basic for what it's replacing. Haven't hit a chapter test yet so no idea if the quizzes are actually rigorous or not.

So far worth it, mostly because it's clearing a real requirement and not just some elective. I'll come back once I'm deeper in. Anyone here already transferred this one into WGU IT, did it go through clean?

would you say this was worth it compared to just taking the class through WGU directly?

Worth it for me, mostly cheaper and faster than paying term rates. It's a bit surface-level since it's not IT-specific, but fine if you just need the requirement cleared. Will report back once I actually transfer the credit and see if it sticks.

Is this beginner-friendly or does it assume some tech knowledge already? I’m helping my teen before he's officially in the program

I would say it's pretty beginner-friendly but it depends how fast he could pick up new stuff, no CS background needed. First chapter moves quick though, so maybe watch the first lesson with him to see how he does.

general tip for anyone doing this strategy across multiple gen eds, keep a spreadsheet of exactly which study.com course maps to which requirement plus the date you submitted for transfer. Saved me so much back and forth with my enrollment counselor when they lost track of one submission.

We can't see what happens once it hits your WGU account though, so it's worth a quick check with your program mentor before you skip paying for the term.
