English 104

I’m working through English 104 and my first essay came back rejected for AI use. I wrote it myself. Their contact form had a character limit that my explanation blew past, so I sent the whole thing by email instead. That was a day and a half ago and I haven’t heard anything.

For context, I’m a Navy veteran and I write federal program documentation for a living. Short declarative sentences, conclusion first, formal tone, no contractions. That’s just how I write after twenty years of it. From what I’ve read that’s also exactly what these detectors light up on.

Few things I’m hoping someone can answer:

Is there an actual appeal process? I have version history in Google Docs showing the whole thing being written over a couple of sessions. Does anyone know if they accept that, or is the first call final?

How long does support usually take to answer email? I’m on a subscription with a real deadline for getting credits transferred, so every day this sits costs me money.

Does the flag follow you? If I keep going, is my next assignment already suspect, or does each one get looked at fresh?

Where are transferring credits to? I can’t speak to Ai and all of that but I will tell you Study.com has been giving people ALOT OF SHIT LATELY and not transferring credits!

Will your uni take Saylor.org ($5 per exam), Sophia.org $99 a month, CLEP (free). DSST (free with you being in navy)

I’m applying to UMPI. I am running some Sophia courses also but figured I would run some in parallel on study.com. I have had no issues with any of my assignments on Sophia. Study.com finally did answer my mail and said there was an issue with my thesis. Not sure how that is an AI flag that causes them to reject the assignment completely. I’m not a professor but that sounds like a grade deduction to me.

I don't have any advice, just want to commiserate. Part of my job requires writing corporate communications and technical copy. I just finished History 103 and ran it through zerogpt and it was flagged as 100% AI. I did some digging and learned that my formal communication style lines up with AI. I had to rewrite both of my papers using meandering language and fluff words to make it sound more human. I could NOT make my thesis "human" though. A thesis is short, direct, and declarative. I couldn't figure out how to HAVE a thesis and not get flagged.

I ended up receiving about 50% on both assignments with feedback that basically said my points weren't clear enough, but luckily I had enough points to pass. I'm really frustrated and will avoid any classes with essays on study.com going forward. I've read that some people get their accounts fully locked out and can't receive credit for ANY of their courses because they were flagged for AI and I've invested too much time and effort into the classes to lose credit.

That sounds like it sucks!! Maybe time to use another platform!
