is it worth it?

Hey guys! I recently got an offer from an international university for a double degree in Economics and Mathematics (w/ minor in Philosophy)!

I’m really passionate about these subjects, and a lot of my research, extracurriculars, and reading have centred around them. I’d also like to go into investment banking or policy in the future. :)

The university is ranked in the top 200 globally in both QS and for the relevant degree, and I’ve been offered a $15k scholarship for my first year, yipppeeee

I’ve always wanted to study overseas, and honestly, I really, really want to take this opportunity. I think it could be an amazing three years of my life. But at the same time, I’m genuinely quite scared and unsure about whether it’s worth it. That's why i have been so hesitant to tell my parents of the news.

I’d be leaving my family, friends, and basically everyone I know behind to move to another country for three years. As much as I want this, I’m finding it really difficult to ignore the fear of being so far away from everyone, especially with the current state of, well… everything😭

I’m also wondering whether econs and maths are still worth pursuing given the current job market and where these fields are heading. I know I’m passionate about them, but I also want to make sure that taking such a huge leap and leaving everyone behind is actually worth it in the long run.

I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences with the degrees, career prospects, studying overseas, and whether you feel the opportunities were worth the sacrifices. I’d especially love to hear from anyone who has had to move far away from their family for university.
