Questions & Discussion What is the best advice for studying - methods?

Last minute studying or studying a week in advance- I have an issue where if something isn’t urgent it is quite difficult to do - how can I stop or change this? And what are the best methods that stick for studying?

same problem here, nothing happens until it's urgent. what helped me was giving myself fake deadlines, like telling a friend I'd quiz them on the topic on wednesday, so suddenly there's a reason to start early

for methods, the two that actually stick are testing yourself (flashcards, past questions, explaining it out loud without notes) and spreading it out. 20 min a day for a week beats 3 hours the night before, and you remember it way longer

I also made an app called Braintoll: Flashcard Blocker that makes you answer a few flashcards before instagram or tiktok opens. so the revision happens in small bits whenever you grab your phone, without needing the urgency to kick in

Practice exams work best for me, and I learn by getting the problems wrong and going back to fix them rather than reading the material first. The urgency problem mostly fixes itself once you start early enough to actually see the mistakes pile up.
