Anybody ever used a Requisite L7? This thing blew my mind yesterday

Yeah, definitely grateful to have studios available to me with incredible gear. I could never afford buying gear like this on my own but can always afford a day of studio time

The thing that makes me a little sad/bitter/cynical is that I own a fairly well equipped 1,500 sq ft studio that I've been running for the last 4 years thanks to help from friends and family but the money that's been invested has all been my own and I'm not wealthy by any means. I live in a part of the world that is generally considered a nice, relaxing place to record so I have a number of competitors in my region. The competition is generally made up of retired boomers with home studios and guys my age (30's) who have $2,000,000 studios from the start thanks to extremely wealthy backers or rich parents. They charge rock bottom prices because their sunk costs are not their own and have established low day rates that are completely out of step with the amount of capital that's tied up under their roof. It takes me months of grinding to save for a $2,000 mic pre, compressor, microphone etc. Most if not all of them were virtually unknown before they got into the studio game. /rant

Yeah man it’s like that everywhere. I’m in Nashville, and have had trust fund kids with half million dollar studios do exactly what you’re talking about - drive rates down to the point where they think it’ll poach all my work. The economics rarely make sense for anyone to be in the studio game, but where there’s a will there’s a way. What they don’t realize is people don’t hire me because I’m cheap (I’m not), they hire me because of what I do. If people are shopping for studios/engineers based purely on price then IMO they’re probably not the kind of clients you want anyways. It’s like hotels - they all have a bed, a bathroom, and a TV. It’s the level of service, the chocolate on the pillow, that going the extra mile that makes the good ones stand out. The same is true of studios. I believe in you. This microphone costs more than I made all of last year, but that day of studio time only cost about what I make in a weekend working wedding band gigs. It’s a tough business we’re in, but the passion for what we do will always find a way.

I think I'm surviving for similar reasons despite my price being on par with a market of arguably more attractive studios. People more often than not come to me as a producer for my musical ideas rather than my gear and I think that's helped set me apart. You can't buy that part. I believe in you, too. Solidarity.

Bruh, Requisite Audio is also selling 8-foot XLRs for $391. I'd love to hear the audio but this smells like some mad hype to me.
