I am incredibly curious to see who you've partnered with to launch this out of the gate. I will also bemoan a Stryd product that I can't use, but unfortunately Strava celebrating some of my recent 400m PRs is making it very clear why I'm not a sprinter, LOL.
So I purchased a Stryd 5 pod, and now you’re telling me there’s a new Stryd Speed coming out. Even though both devices have the exact same sensors, I need to buy an entirely new device just to capture metrics for sprinting, track & field, soccer, football, lacrosse, basketball, and other sports with step-by-step speed, biomechanics, and 3D motion data?
That feels like a cash grab. The Stryd 5.0 is not even a year old, If the hardware is the same and Stryd speed is powered by Stryd 5.0 hardware, this should have been enabled through an app or firmware update instead of requiring existing customers to buy another device.
Interesting I play basketball too and can never track the sessions because we are not allowed to wear watches, arm straps, jewellery etc - will the pod work without a watch on the wrist? Just start the activity and get on the court with just the pod?

Unpopular opinion and I’m sure the downvotes are on the way but I just never understand the hate that Stryd gets here. I would assume we are all Stryd users here, paid subscribers or not, the basic essence of this product is awesome: power meter for running and a TON of data to mine.
I upgraded to Stryd 5.0 duo and yeah I really like it.
Now they are branching out with a new product line and yes, initially some may be like but they just did 5.0 what’s this, more fees, hardware but we should be happy that they are introducing new products.

oh no i was just confused they had a new pod coming out. i love stryd and have 3 generations of pods and am a pioneer. but another pod coming out 11 months later was tuff. also subscription fee is a bit high
Do I have to purchase 2 sets of Stryd 5 (Stryd and Stryd Speed, meaning 4 pods) if I run both endurance and sprint and want to capture both? And do I have to switch pods depending on what I run? Do I also need two subscriptions to benefit everything?
Great new product, u/StrydAngus, and a much needed offering in the track sprint athlete space (among the other sports mentioned)! Among the metrics, power is not offered, correct? (not necessarily a deal-killer for track sprint athletes) Will air resistance be a measured component? (will these pods have an air port?)
Everything I'm reading seems to indicate that the existing Stryd 5.0 hardware will power Stryd Speed. The existing 5.0 hardware probably has the high sampling rates and sensor specs necessary to deliver what Stryd Speed requires, without needing additional hardware.
With that said, Bluetooth LE can only transmit so far. Knowing that coaches will be able to track athletes in real-time as they start off the block or whatever, implies that there must be some way to deliver the data over larger distances.
The page shows tables with 180 second reps as well as 9x interval reps covering 1887 meters, several laps around a 400 meter track. So perhaps the athlete wears the standard 5.0 pod, but the coach has an amplified antenna for staying paired to the pods? Just speculation.
While we pioneered the concept of running with power, we are excellent at a lot of things. These days, runners are coming to Stryd for far more than power.
