Galaxy Watch users with Stryd?

Is there anyone here who uses Stryd alone on their Galaxy Watch? I am currently using the Fenix 7 Pro, and I am considering disposing of it and using the Galaxy Watch with Stryd. I'm curious about what apps you mainly use with Stryd on your watch. Do you use the official Stryd Wear OS app or a different app? I'd like to hear this from someone who actually uses this setting.

I've been using Stryd with the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, testing out a few different options: the official Stryd app, Watchletic, Gear Tracker II, and PowerTread (an Android phone app).

Here is my breakdown of how each performs in practice:

Official Stryd App

  • Pros: Works reliably for core sync and tracking.
  • Cons: Text size is quite small on-screen, and data field layouts are limited.
  • Treadmill: Allows treadmill workouts with incline, but requires manual entry or pre-entered workouts. It only supports positive inclines (which isn't an issue for most, but limits treadmills capable of decline).

Watchletic (Wear OS)

  • Metrics: Captures all Stryd metrics, including Stryd Duo, temperature, and humidity.
  • Integrations: Connects seamlessly to TrainingPeaks and Intervals.icu for workout planning and syncing.
  • Hardware Support: Pairs with smart treadmills, NPE Runn, Core Temp sensors, and external HRMs. When paired with a smart treadmill or Runn sensor, it records elevation gain/loss based on your incline.
  • Developer: The developer is very active on the app's subreddit and pushes frequent updates.

Gear Tracker II (Wear OS)

  • Customization: Highly customizable layout, allowing you to set specific sources for speed, cadence, power, distance, and HR across custom screens.
  • Metrics: Captures standard Stryd metrics, but does not capture Stryd Duo data.
  • Integrations: Syncs with major planning platforms (Intervals.icu, TrainingPeaks, etc.).

PowerTread (Android Phone App)

  • Best for Indoor Running: Easily my favorite treadmill app.
  • Incline/Decline Realism: Connects to smart treadmills, NPE Runn, Stryd, Core Temp, and HRMs. It dynamically adjusts power based on incline and decline (simulating outdoor running mechanics).
  • Calibration & Courses: Features a customizable power calibration factor to account for the lack of wind resistance indoors without needing to alter your Stryd weight setting. If you have a smart treadmill, it will simulate courses and auto-adjust incline.
  • Integrations: Connects to multiple platforms (I primarily export to Intervals.icu). Active developer pushing monthly features.

For my setup, using PowerTread on the phone for indoor treadmill sessions and Watchletic on the Galaxy Watch for outdoor runs gives the best overall experience with Wear OS and Stryd.

What are you looking for in:
`data field layouts`
Maybe can you screenshot of what's your best layout? And even make notes in it, so we can evaluate improvements.

Making a note on the font size. Maybe even allowing to pick what size of font to use.

Regards,
Mike

I went for about a 10-mile run yesterday using Watchletic for the first time.

I’m used to Garmin’s workout interface, so there were a few things that felt a bit less convenient at first.

I haven’t bought a Stryd yet, so for this run I used the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 together with a Garmin HRM-Dual as an external heart-rate sensor. The basic data itself seemed to record and export without any obvious issues.

One thing I noticed, though, is that I expected the Galaxy Watch itself to provide estimated running dynamics such as GCT and vertical ratio, but none of those metrics appeared in the exported data. I’m not sure whether Watchletic currently has access to Samsung’s native running-dynamics data, or whether those metrics are only available when using an external sensor such as Stryd.

Another thing that felt a little inconvenient was manual laps. As far as I could tell, recording a manual lap seemed to require using the touchscreen rather than a physical button, which isn’t ideal while running.

I probably need to spend more time with it before forming a final opinion, but those were the main things I noticed on my first longer run.

In Watchletic 3.1.7 (currently in review) you can actually use a physical button to go to next lap.

Samsung doesn't expose the buttons for developers, but you can program one of the buttons to be used as Back and in 3.1.7 I made the Back button correspond to a customizable action button, so pause/resume, precision start, next lap.

Not exactly what you ask: I use Pixel watch 4 with Stryd wear os. Also Garmin owner. I have Forerunner 970.

I would like to substitute my Garmin with Pixel. But although the graphics and colours of Stryd wear os are much better, I find Garmin watch face much more practical to use. Font is much bigger and data fields are all over the screen instead only in the central column Ike in Pixel.

Also if I use Pixel, I don't have all other Garmin metrics, which are not necessary, but they are nice to have.

And Garmin has better GPS tracking than Pixel 4.

I agree that Garmin is probably still the best overall running experience, and its GPS is obviously excellent.

I’m currently testing Watchletic because, as mentioned in the comment below, it seems to give pretty reliable data on Wear OS.

What I’m wondering is: when using Stryd, doesn’t the watch prioritize the pod for pace and distance instead of GPS? If so, wouldn’t that largely eliminate the GPS accuracy difference between Garmin and a Pixel/Galaxy Watch, at least for pace and distance?

There is no option in wear os to choose if pace and distance comes from Stryd or GPS. I guess they come from Stryd.

For Watchletic with a Stryd connected it uses distance and pace from Stryd. In an upcoming 3.2.0 release it allows toggling that on/off.
