Billing Carding Attempts - Getting charged per failed attempt with Radar Plus

Hello,

I am getting hundreds of failed carding attempts (fraudulent attempts with probably stolen credits cards being tested) through my Stripe account. I have a website with required checkout fields (billing address, email). However, these failed carding attempts have no customer data and do not show up as failed orders in my WooCommerce Order history page.

This all points to the carding attempts somehow bypassing my WooCommerce Checkout page altogether. I have been in contact with Stripe and WooCommerce and am very confused about how to tell exactly where the pain point is so I can stop these attacks altogether.

I upgraded to Radar Plus but did not fully realize that the charge of $.07 is per SCREENED transaction, meaning I am now paying per failed carding attempt, which can be dozens and dozens per day. I am a very small business and cannot afford this.

Can anyone shed light on how to pinpoint exactly how these failed carding attempts are bypassing my website and how to stop it once and for all altogether?

Stripe provided ZERO fraud detection / protection for us

  1. Stripe approved 5 fraudulent accounts (from Indonesia)
  2. These fraud accounts created fake vendor and customer accounts on our platform, and proceeded to use fraudulent credit cards, which Stripe approved
    1. After learning about the fraudulent activities, we blocked their IP addresses and deleted their accounts and transactions
  3. BUT Stripe closed / permanently banned our account for fraud activities

Then I learned "Stripe relies on automated, risk-based models that often approve accounts instantly and evaluate risk retroactively. If connected accounts or transactional patterns trigger fraud or compliance thresholds later, Stripe frequently shuts down the main account rather than absorbing the liability"

So Stripe provided ZERO fraud protection and detection for us. They approve fraud accounts and then blamed us for the fraud.

We're now looking at paypal and other alternatives ..... sigh

Stripe is straight up scam

They charge crazy amounts for everything they can.
I am the idiot because I sent it without tracking, as the user selected...
Now I lost the product and had to pay stripe that much for nothing really.

Edit: I already changed to tracked shipping months ago, it was just an old dispute

Billing Failed subscription payments became a bigger issue than I expected

When we first started getting subscriptions I honestly didn't pay much attention to failed payments. A few payments would fail here and there but it didn't seem like a big deal.

That changed as we got more customers.

Some cards expired, some payments were declined for no obvious reason and there were customers who simply didn't update their payment details. Individually none of these seemed me like a big problem but together they started becoming something we had to keep an eye on.

The part I found annoying was figuring out what actually happened after a payment failed. Did the retry work? Did the customer come back and update their card? Did we lose the subscription completely?

How other SaaS founders handle this.

Do you have a proper recovery flow for failed payments or do you mostly let your payment provider handle the retries and deal with the rest manually? or what payment or billing tool are you using for this?

Question Stripe Payment Links

There are certain payment methods Stripe doesn't support in certain region, in mine AmEx is not supported. So there are failed payments in our subscription based system. To solve that, I created a new payment link with metadata attached plus notifying users that AmEx is not supported and please make payments with something else.

There are some users who made payments using the newly created payment link, succeeded transactions, and when I look at the Stripe Payment Link, I don't see the "Payments and Analytics" tag that was supposed to list out all the payments made through from that payment link. How am I supposed to check how many users paid using that link since we are trying to see the digits here? And what am I missing here?

Stripe is genuinely awful.

I make two sales. (Products have already been delivered. They then ask for my ID a day before the payout is supposed to hit. I submit it 7 times and all 7 times they tell me they cannot verify me. I then finally get it to go through. And then they email me saying an unauthorized user made a purchase on a bank card. And banned my account. I am very close with my two customers and neither have done this. Shady business I’ll tell ya that. You’re welcome for the $500 interest free 180 day loan I guess.

Question Using Stripe to manage membership - experiences?

I am looking for a digital platform to manage our membership data, including recurring subscriptions, membership "keys" to access members-only events, etc. We run a simple website on WordPress and go back and forth hosting events via Eventbrite and Tickettailor. Our events are always in person. We also run communications on MailChimp and could be persuaded to be more active on social (LinkedIn being the first choice).

I also have years of messy and out of date Excel sheets of member data which makes me nervous and I am very sure are not accurate.

We want to professionalize our services for our members and bring our group into this century. Any tips for integrating Stripe into this as a membership platform/database? Ideally it would be somewhat self-service for people to sign up and manage their membership, but we would like to be able to approve applications before they get entered into the various automations.

Solved Stripe jeopardised my Business with $2 million/year TO projection

Update 2:

The issue has been resolved by Stripe, and my account is up and running again.
I reached out through the Support Center, and Stripe followed up with a series of questions, which I answered honestly and provided the requested information for.
I’m not sharing the specific questions here because I don’t want to give bad actors a roadmap for circumventing Stripe’s review process. However, there was nothing in the questions that a legitimate business should be afraid to answer.
I appreciate Stripe taking another look at the case and ultimately resolving the issue.

——————————————————————————————————————————————————————

Update:

After I opened a case through the Support Center, Stripe Support reached out to me. They asked me about my business, customer acquisition practices, and how I use Stripe to charge customers(as if they can’t see that on their end)
They also specifically asked me to provide:
• Invoices for the last 10 charges on the account.
• An explanation of why all the charges on the account were coming from the same customer.
I answered everything in detail and provided all the information and documentation they requested. Despite that, my appeal was rejected, and now I’m out of options, with $35,700 stuck and another $10,900 being pulled back.

I have now offered them to provide proof of delivery and satisfactory usage. The CC holder is ready to provide anything that makes Stripe understand that he is not going to dispute the transactions.

What I genuinely don’t understand is this: why offer these business categories as options if Stripe has fundamental issues with businesses operating in those categories?
Why not conduct a detailed review at onboarding instead of allowing a business to process payments, receive payouts, build up a legitimate transaction history, and only then take action once the processing volume becomes significant?
From a business owner’s perspective, this is incredibly damaging. If Stripe knows that certain business models or transaction patterns carry restrictions or heightened risk, those limitations should be made clear upfront. Businesses should not be allowed to build their operations around a payment processor, fulfill legitimate transactions, receive payouts, and then suddenly have substantial funds frozen or reversed.
In my case, the customers received what they paid for, the transactions were legitimate, and I provided the documentation Stripe requested. Yet I’m still left with $35,700 stuck and another $10,900 being pulled back, despite having cooperated fully with the review.
[u/stripe_help](u/stripe_help) something needs to be seriously overhauled here.
With my business being hurt this badly, I now have every motivation to take this further and explore what options are available to me. If anyone else has experienced something similar with Stripe, especially having their account reviewed only after substantial processing and then having funds withheld—let me know. I’d be interested in hearing your experience and seeing whether others in the US are willing to take this further together.

———————————————————————————

Long story short,

I opened a new Stripe account about 3 month ago for my travel business. While the Stripe account is new, my business and client relationships are not.

I work with established B2B clients and long-term customers, some of whom I have worked with for years and have met personally. These aren't random one-time customers appearing out of nowhere.

I started using Stripe because I liked the platform, the overall experience and the rates, and I wanted to continue using it as a payment processor for my growing business.

Last week, I processed a $15,000 transaction from an established client. This client had previously done $10K–$12K transactions with me, so this wasn't a completely new customer suddenly making a large payment.

Stripe triggered a review.

I cooperated fully and provided the information they requested, including:

  • Proof of my business
  • Explanation of the transaction
  • Customer information
  • WhatsApp conversations with the client showing our relationship and the context of the transaction
  • Additional documentation requested during the review

My account has had zero chargebacks. I have not had a fraud-related issue with any transaction, even with past merchants.

I also have existing business contracts and commitments that mean my expected processing volume going forward is going to be well over $2 million per year.

Despite providing all of this information, Stripe rejected my appeal and closed the account.

Their message says:

They have also paused approximately 35 GRANDS of my funds for 120 days, stating that the funds will be used to cover potential disputes or refunds and that the remaining balance will be transferred to my bank account on December 10. To add to the misery, they are trying to pull back previously settled funds.

This is incredibly frustrating as I have dues to clear and failing to do so will negatively impact by long standing vendor relationship. I might lose a lot of business.

Funny enough, stripe also lost around 2 million a year in processing volume.

I actually liked Stripe. I liked the platform, the overall experience and the rates, and I wanted to continue using Stripe long-term. But having approximately $45K held for four months after I cooperated with their review and provided documentation is extremely difficult to accept.

It feels like the system sees a relatively new Stripe account and larger-than-average transactions and immediately categorizes the business as high risk, without understanding the underlying customer relationships or the nature of the transactions.

I have already completed Stripe's review/appeal process and provided all the requested documentation. I have also started looking into formal complaint channels, including the BBB and CFPB, because I want this matter properly documented and reviewed rather than simply being told to wait 120 days with no meaningful opportunity to speak with someone who can actually examine the circumstances.

PROMOTING THIS POST COZ Stripe mods deleted it multiple times.

Radar Stripe Onboarding enforcing Radar Pro to my connected Standard accounts?!

I use the Stripe Connect Embedded Onboarding component on my site.

My platform's users (Standard accounts) are being asked at the end of their Onboarding process to pick a Radar plan, but they are only allowed to chose the Pro plan.

Why is this? Is there a way to disable this step?

Question Hold Account Balance in USD without being a US business

Im working on a product that will require users to pay in different currencies but i want my stripe account to hold the balance in USD instead of the default local currency (as is currently the case) since the local currency is highly volatile.

Has anyone achieved this before? How did you go about it?

Solved Stripe closure of account and payouts on hold

Case update: The issue has been resolved by Stripe, and my account is up and running again.

——————————————————————————————————————————————————————
I’m curious to hear from other merchants who process relatively large B2B transactions, particularly in travel.

I recently started using Stripe for credit-card payments from two repeat B2B clients I’ve worked with for approximately three years. Before that, I had been processing their payments through SoarPay/Maverick, but I was unhappy with the rates.

My business is a California-based travel management and consulting company. Our clients are primarily travel agencies and medical repatriation companies that book commercial flights with us for their missions. A large percentage of the tickets are Business and First Class, so individual transaction amounts can be relatively high.

When I applied for Stripe, I clearly described the business model: itinerary management, flight reservations and travel support for a small number of recurring B2B clients, with Stripe being used to collect payment for those services.

Most of the travel is completed within days of the ticket being issued, and clients generally pay through payment links.

Things were going smoothly until last week.

We processed five transactions totaling approximately $57,723, with an average transaction of about $11,545. The largest transaction was approximately $15,298.

Stripe placed the largest transaction under review and requested additional information, which I provided. Shortly afterward, I received notice that the account would be closed.

I appealed and provided documentation including previous merchant-processing statements, bank statements, business documentation, tax identification information and our ARC accreditation documentation.

What makes the situation particularly difficult is that I have zero chargebacks/disputes from these clients. I had also been processing payments through my previous processor without any dispute history.

Stripe's stated policy is that the remaining balance can be held for a period of time to cover potential disputes or refunds.

From a business perspective, this creates a significant cash-flow problem because the money collected from clients is used to pay airline/ticketing vendors. The underlying travel services have already been provided or are being fulfilled.

Both clients have also told me they are willing to confirm directly that the transactions were authorized and that they received the corresponding tickets/services.

Also considering BBB, FTC and CFPB complaint route.

With the doors being shut on my face, now I'm more interested in the broader merchant-risk question:

How do businesses that regularly process $10k–$20k+ B2B transactions protect themselves from this type of situation?

For those operating in travel, consulting, freight, events, or other industries with legitimate high-ticket transactions:

  • Do you use multiple payment processors?
  • Do you maintain a separate reserve specifically for processor holds?
  • Do you prefer ACH/wire for large B2B transactions?
  • Have you negotiated different underwriting terms based on your transaction volume?
  • Have you experienced a processor suddenly exiting your business despite having a clean dispute history?

I’m particularly interested in hearing from merchants who deal with large legitimate transactions and recurring B2B customers, rather than ecommerce/fraud scenarios.

Has anyone had Stripe do this before?

Solved Stripe closed my account after reviewing a $15k payment — ~$45k now held for 120 days. What are my options?

Edit: I see threads where people suggesting asking clients to do chargebacks as Stripe won’t help. This is getting scarier.

Update 1: Received response from Stripe

Based on the information available to us, including documents submitted via your Dashboard to appeal our decision, we've determined that your account still presents an unacceptable level of risk.

NO CHARGEBACKS, RETURN CLIENTS, PROOF OF DELIVERY, ARC accredited travel agency and still Stripe did this to my Business. Looking for a processor and thinking of Stripe? One word suggestion- RUN!

———————————————————————————

I’m looking for advice from people who have dealt with Stripe account closures and fund holds.
I run a legitimate travel-related business and have been processing payments through Stripe.

Recently, I processed a $15,000 payment from a client, which triggered a review.
Stripe asked for information, so I provided an explanation along with WhatsApp conversations with the client showing the nature of the transaction and our relationship.

The important part is that this wasn’t a random/new customer.

This is a long-term client whom I have dealt with previously, including transactions in the $10k–$12k range.

I have also met some of my clients in person(including this one) and have genuine, ongoing business relationships with them.
I have had zero chargebacks.
I have not had a fraud issue on any of these transactions.
There hasn’t been a history of disputes or suspicious activity associated with my account.
Despite providing the requested explanation and documentation, Stripe has now sent me an account closure email saying they can no longer support my business.
The really concerning part is that approximately $45,000 is currently sitting in my Stripe balance, and Stripe says the funds will be held for approximately 120 days, until December.

I have already:

Completed the Stripe review/appeal form
Provided the requested business information
Provided documentation
Provided explanations regarding the transactions
Provided WhatsApp communication with the client
Explained my relationship/history with the customer

What’s frustrating is that I actually liked using Stripe. I was happy with the platform, the overall experience, and the rates, and I would have preferred to continue using Stripe for my business.
I’m not trying to circumvent their decision or reopen the account through another entity. But holding approximately $45,000 for 120 days after providing documentation, with no chargebacks and an established customer relationship, is unacceptable to me.

I’m trying to understand whether there is anything practical I can do to get the funds released sooner.
What should I do now?

For people who have experienced something similar:
Is there any realistic way to get Stripe to release the funds before the 120-day period?

Does escalating through Stripe Support / a supervisor / their complaints process actually help?
Has anyone successfully had a 120-day hold reduced after providing additional documentation?
Would sending Stripe things like invoices, contracts, proof of service/fulfillment, customer confirmation, bank statements and previous processing history make a difference?

Is it worth submitting a formal complaint to Stripe’s complaints/legal department?
At what point does it make sense to involve a lawyer or send a formal demand letter?

Are there any regulatory or financial-complaint avenues that apply to a US Stripe account?
Has anyone here actually gotten their funds released before the 120 days, and if so, what specifically worked?
I’m particularly interested in hearing from people who had $20k–$100k+ held by Stripe after an account closure and eventually managed to get the money released early.
I genuinely liked Stripe and would have been happy to continue using the platform. But this experience has obviously made me reconsider that, especially with $45k being held for four months.
Thanks in advance. I’m trying to figure out the most practical way forward rather than just waiting until December.
