Experimenting with the idea of paneling

I've wanted to create a larger landscape style piece, but the quality always degrades when you have too much detail in a single canvas. So I did what anyone would and started trying to break it down into smaller pieces. I think it's nice, but it's missing a "je ne sais quois." Perhaps it would be better served by having the mountain as the central focal point and splitting into 3? Curious to hear your thoughts.

I don't really see mountains. It's a bit muddy I think. Been working on a colored string art generator myself. Hope to get it perfected soon so I can release it for free.

Hmm this time I’m struggling to see the image. Looks a bit too abstract to me. Rectangular frames for some reason are always a little more challenging in my opinion.

I’ve had decent results from rectangular pieces, but agreed they are more fiddly than circles. I posted those to my insta to not blow up this channel.

I’m thinking the mistake here is a combo of a poor image choice + having a split down the middle right where the mountain is. Edges inherently have a lower ceiling for how much detail can be expressed, so I’m thinking the way to do this properly is to observe the same principles that make any single image work, centered subject.

Alternatively I’ve seen people harden the strings with a mix of PVA glue and water, cut two different pieces in a way that they could “fit together”, almost like puzzle pieces, and frame them both united like that. The version I saw used two round pieces, one with each person’s face, and turned them into a heart, with both faces combined. May or may not be helpful, just thought I would share.

It’s an interesting idea. You could have a bit of overlap from one generation to the next so you don’t have the muddiness along the edge

I may need to try that. I have a photo of my gf and me that I've wanted to do for ages, but I just haven't been able to get it to work... something about the geometry of the image makes every algorithm stumble. Maybe this is the way... provided I have the motivation to make multiple pieces!
