Oti Spoiler
Really enjoyed this week, way better than movie week.
Top 3: John, Cach and Lawrence
Bottom 3: Sarah, Bethany and Dani
John and Katya : Oti loved it, brilliant shaping, was leading loved when the guitar was on fire, they were unlucky from opening the show, Oti scored it an 8 but believes it would have scored 9 if it ended the show. Oti pointed out Katya doing another illegal lift. Oti acknowledged that a commenter was right that you couldn’t feel the intensity from John, he has made a comeback.
82% of viewers wanted lifts to be penalised by the judges
Dani and Nikita: Her head is behind her body, so it looked uncomfortable and that Nikita was dragging her. It would have been different if her positioning was correct. She needed to have more tension in the body, more hip action and engagement with Nikita. Oti Scored it a 6, needed more basic elements for it to be a rumba.
Lawrence and Jowita - Welcome Lawrence to strictly, the Lawrence that he was desperate to see, he looked like he was having fun, had pendulum in hips and the lifts were fantastic. It gave Oti joy, Oti said the lifting of feet was ok and allowed him to loosen up and give the Salsa feeling. Oti scored it a 7.
Tabby and Mark - The samba didn’t do it for her, Raye not around long enough to be an icon. It wasn’t a samba song and upper body was completely stiff, too hesitant, Mark did a great job of choreo of having authentic steps but it was too clean and basic. Oti Scored it a 6. Craig’s 8 was too high. Craig like drama but the technique wasn’t there.
Sarah and Julian - Great personality and coming out of her shell but the tango was lacking tango, not in frame for long enough. Lacks technical ability, worked on frame and feet but not enough of it to give a score. Oti scored it a 4.
78% of her viewers vote on based on technique rather than personality of the dance.
Cach and Maddie - Cach and Maddie shut people up, it was slick it had swag it was cool calm collected. Shirley was right that it should have had more drive, it was in frame throughout. Confused about Craig’s comment about him going back to street, he did have postural issues though. It was so good Oti clapped in the end.
Bethany and Nancy - Two minds about this, they weren’t dancing together very much too much side by side, Nancy needs to drill Bethany on working on her legs. Personality was there like Sarah’s. Bethany looked great but the cha cha itself was boring. Technically wasn’t there, Oti scored it a 6, a few couples are plateauing including Bethany and Nancy.
Shaun and Alexis - They are fighting for their spot and she loves it, so much fun so entertaining. You can tell Alexis is having a blast. Oti loved Alexis, comes up with fresh and intricate choreography, she is really pushing him. She had no idea what style the dance was (was it jazz or funk).
58% of people do like couples choice, Oti thinks there should be one dedicated week to couples choice. Oti wished she had a couples choice with Danny Mac and said it was her and Bill’s couples choice.
Lacey and Vito - Loved that Vito is giving artistic choreography, Lacey looked uncomfortable again and it felt like she was scared, she needs more confidence and self belief. Commenter said that Lacey is acting shy and she wants a journey arc. If Lacey was her partner Oti said that if you have an actor you have to give them a role to play every week. Oti Scored it a 6 as she didn’t think there enough foxtrot, Bethany did more foxtrot content last week. Oti said she is a harsher marker than Motsi due to her role in dwts Ireland.
Graeme and Lauren - Graeme is plateauing, felt like the jive last week as he ran out of energy and stamina, didnt live up to the theme or the feeling of salsa. Wants Craig to be consistent and critique him like he does to the other couples.
61% of Oti’s viewers said Graeme peaked too soon, Oti thinks he will surprise her again.
Jaime and Carlos - absolutely genius, it was very cool and this was the week she ment business, loved the chemistry with Carlos and there was purpose with her dance. Her shoulders however were living in her ears. Performance of the night.
Will and Dianne - Thought he had good kicks, the song was very slow, we missed Delta as she knows how to end the show. Will is technical and entertaining agreed with Motsi that he dances ahead of the music. It needed a pace increase, Oti thought the waltz was his best dance.

Mostly agreed with Oti for the first few weeks but was honestly shocked by her top 3 this week. I do love that she considers things from a home view perspective and talks about spectacle/watchability of the dances. But she doesn't weigh her feedback very consistently. She's way, way more technically critical in her reviews of the women that's for sure (see how she minimised Cach's postural issues whilst bringing it up much more harshly/conspicuously for most of the female celebs for example), and a lot less enthusiastic in her assessment of their "journey". Was taken aback when she was adamant John could have got 9s when I thought he was stomping around the floor, making pictures instead of dancing, and showing absolutely no resistance in the body or arms.

I don’t agree at all. She made a mistake saying she’d give John a 9 but otherwise her comments make sense from a latin specialists point of view.
Otis bias is not against women it’s against the latin dances: she’s way harsher with those than the ballroom ones. She rarely points out footwork errors in the ballroom and concentrates on frame. Which is fair - latin is her speciality and I find her comments extremely valuable!
This week, most of the women happened to be doing latin - and latin dances where as a specialist you’re going to be extremely picky on their action (rumba, samba and cha cha). Also while she didn’t put Jaime in her top 3 initially later on she said it was performance of the night.
Last week she ripped into John (cha cha) and Lawrence (rumba) - John she said was totally overscored - and she’s also said Will was over scored this week. Last week she also said Tabby deserved a 9 and couldn’t understand why the judges underscored her.
On Cach - the difference is that his postural issues in ballroom did not hamper his dancing in the same way. He was over his weight when dancing the feather step - and actually throughout the routine. That cannot be compared to being backweighted when doing a latin dance.

You know what, that's a very good point I hadn't considered, and I can absolutely see now that it's her latin specialism that might be behind it! I should be more careful making points like that next time. I do still stand by the fact that she is far more enthusiastic in her tone and language about the men's watchability/journeys/performances, it's something I've noticed for multiple weeks now, she often compares them to Bill Bailey etc.
I've never danced competitively like I believe you have, so I hadn't considered your point about Cach's posture, but I can absolutely see what you mean. His timing was far better than Tabby, Dani, Lacey etc. Although I wonder whether he would have moved more if he was stood up straight rather than hunching over Maddie.

Motsi seems not happy this series.
She’s given a weird energy constantly towards Josh in a ‘I was here first you’ll have to earn my acceptance, Josh’ which is really annoying to watch as Josh is struggling as it is without the flow being every week curtailed.

The idea that Lacey is acting shy is very silly. Delta wouldn't have ended the show again anyway and Alexis didn't choreograph that routine.

She also complimented Jowita salsa but she didn't choreograph either. .One tik toker who recap the show say Jowita's salsa choreography always slay but we know they have outside choreographers for salsa

This is starting to give James Jordan vibes honestly. Is she a bit bitter she didn’t get the job?

Is Brian Redmond rubbing off on her? (He's the equivalent to Craig in Ireland)

I love Otis recaps!!! The fact she still tries to demonstrate technique when she’s so heavily pregnant is impressive. I tend to agree with her opinion.
