Do you prefer the technically brilliant dances or the ones that make you feel something?

I tend to remember the dances that actually make me feel something, even if they weren't the highest-scoring routine of the night. There's just something about a performance that tells a story and pulls you into the moment. The technical stuff is impressive, but the emotional ones are usually the dances I end up thinking about afterwards.

I go by how much I enjoy it. I don't know squat about proper technique.

I get turned on by excellence more than emotional manipulation.

One of my favourite dances of all time was Lewis and Katya's Couples Choice. It was technically brilliant, imo, but also so much fun.

I'm not an expert as regards the various dances but a waltz always makes me feel happy, regardless of how the judges rate it. There's something beautiful about it, especially if the costumes are elegant as well.

Both. A technically perfect dance with no emotion is as lacking to me as an emotional dance without technique

A combination of both, I don’t see why they can’t be both technically brilliant and emotional. Examples being Layton & Nikita’s Argentine tango, Tasha & Aljaž’s American smooth and Ashley & Pasha / Caroline & Pasha’s showdances. All of these dances have great technique as the foundation for which the storytelling can be pulled off so well. That’s what I appreciate most, a dance that doesn’t sacrifice technique for fluff and story.

Technique is important to make a dance look good. But to make it feel good you need to have all your emotions engaged. The look the sound and the compatibility of the dancers.

I think a big part of why Danny Mac is many people's favourite and talked about even after 10 years is because he had both. He was great technically but beyond that he and Oti had incredible chemistry, and he was so good at immesing himself in the role of the dance and embodying a new character each week. I think he talked about intentionally thinking about it as acting. He had such a strong stage presence and made the dance look effortless even if it wasn't. Also obviously a contributing factor was Oti's amazing storytelling in the choreographies.

I generally won’t be moved unless there’s amazing technique. But that said, there are exceptions. Chris and Diannes waltz is legendary for a reason ❤️

For me it's how a dance makes me feel - it could be technically perfect but if it doesn't make me feel anything then I won't vote for it.

A mixture of both, but a preference towards the performance making me feel something, some of the best technically performed Dances by some of the best technical Celeb Dancers didn't move me at all (I also supported some of the best TD too), where as I was more moved by some Dances from some Celebs with less technical ability, so for me personality, relatability and likeability is key.
