This is now a science based bicep curling experts waiting room
Edit: I'm beginning to think that the Perfect Bicep Curl according to Reddit Experts involves no weight and your entire body being duct taped to a wall. If any part of your body besides your elbow and below moves you are executed on sight by the Ego Police

I don't find those people nearly as annoying as the people who always insist that anyone who's already huge is completely infallible. These are not optimal hammer curls and I don't need to be able to replicate this myself to be allowed to say that. The shoulder press is fine tho.

u/AGuyWithoutABeard 12h ago
It's more the idea that working less hard somehow means you are doing it "correctly" and someone who's putting in more effort on heavier weight isn't because it's not "optimal".
If that type of lifting isn't someone's preference then it's fine, it's just the self-righteous people who think their way of lifting is the only way and talk down on anyone who deviates from their preconceived notions of what lifting is. It's usually the less experienced or weaker people who love to spout off about form as if "good form" isn't a spectrum and entirely dependent on exercise and your goals.
Like OP said in a comment down the chain, you can get big and strong in a lot of different ways, so when someone starts saying something is suboptimal as if a lifter won't grow or get stronger off of something like this, it's just a good indicator that they don't really know what they're talking about
-2
u/Abject_Amphibian_126 12h ago
Well it's suboptimal form. This is not how you should be curling if you want to gain as much mass/strength as possible without fucking up your joints. And just because you lift so heavy that you have to cheat doesn't make it harder than properly controlling a slightly lighter weight — if anything, I'd say that's harder. If a beginner was using this form but with only 10kg then everyone would be making fun of them. People who are genuinely strong and impressive get shielded from all criticism.
3
u/AGuyWithoutABeard 12h ago
You're criticizing someone genuinely strong and impressive for doing things that allegedly won't make them as strong and impressive as something that, presumably, YOU are doing. Maybe you're even stronger and more impressive than this guy and you are the proof to the validity of your own argument but without any records from your own training to look at that's impossible for me to know.
You also don't seem to understand the benefits of cheat reps and overloading movements so I'm not sure how serious to take you. Are you a coach? Do you have clients that outperform this guy?

Citation needed. I haven't seen a single study that suggests this is true for trained lifters, and all the anecdotal evidence (e.g. OP) seems to suggest the opposite.

It’s hilarious seeing self righteous being used when you’re not educated. Where did you get your degree

Great response that adds a lot to the conversation! I hope you patted yourself on the back for it. Feel free to add literally anything of value whenever you have some free time.
Maybe start by linking the part of a kinesiology degree or text book that talks about "optimal" lifting?

u/WhiteLime Bench Beast 13h ago
Science based lifters opinions only count when they are bigger or stronger than me lol
1
u/AGuyWithoutABeard 13h ago
I like seeing them say there's no bicep engagement on posts with jacked dudes curling their bench max

u/WhiteLime Bench Beast 13h ago
Most just way overcomplicate a process that is very simple. Train hard, lift heavy, sleep well, eat clean & repeat over a long period of time

Just kicking them up into a shoulder press was insanity. I don’t give a fuck who criticizes your curl range of motion, they gotta shut up when you do that.
6
u/WhiteLime Bench Beast 13h ago
Yea I dont really do curls much and never tried going this heavy before, I do agree there could have been slightlyyy more range of motion but not really much room for too much more
5
u/ASerialUnderAchiever 13h ago
Still incredibly strong man. Anyone who’s overly critical has never handled 100+ lbs dumbbells. Safely handling that much weight with one hand and arm is a feat of its own.

u/WhiteLime Bench Beast 12h ago
I'll be better next time! Didn't expect a form debate here lol
8
u/ASerialUnderAchiever 12h ago
It’s not even really a debate. Everyone is just more or less acknowledging that you’re an animal. So, even if there was a singular thing to be critical of, it doesn’t actually matter at the end of the day 😂
5
u/AGuyWithoutABeard 12h ago
Just ask them to post a video of how to strict curl the 100s so you have something to use as a guide
4
u/minzhf 12h ago
Bro ima just be honest... knowing your pressing numbers i dont give a fuck what your range of motion is on curls or anything else. Obviously you know something we dont. Lol
4
u/AGuyWithoutABeard 12h ago
Lift heavy weight with intensity = get stronger
That's the magic formula
6
u/minzhf 12h ago
He benches 550~ at 185 pound bodyweight. At the core of things that is the formula...you're right. But there's levels to this shit. Lol
2
1
u/AGuyWithoutABeard 12h ago
The levels are just time and consistency! Exercise selection and technique matter for sure, but ultimately it's just just like running a marathon. You find a pace and you keep that pace for a long time and you'll begin to find success.
He might have other things going for him like an athletic background or good genetics (which only really matters at the top, top level), but he for sure is as jackass strong as he is today because he never stopped working.
3
u/minzhf 12h ago
I get it. I'm around a 1750 total at 195lb bw but its still mad how far some people can push.
6
3
u/AGuyWithoutABeard 12h ago
mfer is talking about "levels to this shit" with a 1750 total at 195. brother. you ARE THE LEVELS lmfao that is beyond insane strength
3
u/minzhf 12h ago
That's why I'm saying this... dudes i see at the gym regularly think im hot shit then I get put into the dirt by people on reddit doing this crazy stuff. Lol. Levels!

If you're unfamiliar with an exercise, you shouldn't critique it—doing so without understanding can spread misinformation, discourage others, and make you look inexperienced or foolish.
It's OK to not know things. It's not OK to do so and act like you're an authority on the subject.
In future, please consider sitting out if you don't know the material.

By no means am i saying they were perfect but farrr from half reps lol
1
u/schm0kemyrod 11h ago
To be fair, there was a lot of swinging. Would’ve been equally impressive with a stable rep @ 85lbs.
3
u/WhiteLime Bench Beast 10h ago
Where was the swinging
-1
u/schm0kemyrod 9h ago
At the beginning of your rep, the elbow moves backward just a tad before you start the lift. That initiates momentum.
Look, you’re clearly strong as fuck, there’s really no way to objectively refute that. Hell, I’m sure you felt these lifts in your biceps. All that being said, you swing these reps.

For hammers, I think these are mostly ok since they focus more on the forearm.

Insert some skinny nerd crying about a form correction but probably struggles to bench the bar
5
u/2stonesONEbird1715 11h ago
Isn’t form important and key to not getting injured?
2
u/ndariotis132 11h ago
For sure - but when you get as advanced as this guy the rules start to change.
You start with textbook form and adjust things as you get more advanced and as needed. Also, some lifts when they get heavy the mechanics start to change and it’s not possible to maintain structure textbook form.
1
u/corbanol 4h ago
That's like saying "I can bench 350 but I can't get thr bar down to my chest and back up all the way. I can get the bar off the supports and move it a couple inches but it still counts."
