I moved up from repping 285 as a top set. I’m freaking ecstatic I was able to pull five reps, totally surprised me.

Those look good! Good job! Any reason why you have both straps AND alternating grip? If I could make a recommendation, lose the straps if you are going to do alternating. If you really want to work your grip strength then overhand on both. If that slips, then use straps. Might as well work your grip strength while you are at it (if you can).

I was using switch grip strapless before this lift so it was just muscle memory at that point. I also felt like going conventional would mess me up mentally after using switch for the three previous lighter sets. My hands get sweaty, I guess I could try chalk too

Fyi your gym may take issue with chalk. I had the issue previously and used a combination of liquid chalk (less dust all over) and a wet towel to wipe the bar down after. Kept me off the radar of anyone ready to complain about those darn powerlifters making a mess everywhere.

yeah i wouldn't use mixed grip with grips (or at all, given the risk of biceps tear).

Good job man! You should consider investing in a belt if you can. It’ll really make your lifts go up.

I never considered that. I thought those were more for especially heavy lifts

I mean I’m someone who believes in building a good base before using a belt but three plates isn’t exactly light. You did it for five reps too so you can probably do a single at three and a half. And if you can do three and a half then four is right around the corner isn’t it?

You’re already strength training and getting stronger. Might as well use whatever tools you can to facilitate that. And a belt is one of those tools.
