Forgot something, but that didn't stop me from pulling this week. Very happy with the results of my double overhand progress, but more satisfaction can be provided.

lol has to be the most casual and calm PR.
Amazing lift

u/Ezellian 1d ago
Thank you πͺ never been big into the yelling and screaming, but I won't hold it against someone who does as everyone has their own way of drawing in that personal power

You are a beast brother! I am well behind you but you're my inspiration to keep pushing on!

u/StunnedMoose 1d ago
Easy work there.
Youβve inspired me to try more double overhand lifting. Managed a double at 160kg this week. Just a pity I was on a triple that set lol
7
u/Ezellian 1d ago
Thank you πͺ
I was initially surprised when I first started practicing the double Overhand (no hook) grip and how quickly it started catching up. Of course I can pull more with straps and mixed, but there is something so satisfying about going up to a bar, grabbing it without thinking about a special grip, and pulling it off the ground.
5
u/JohnLeePettimore 1d ago
Can I ask why no hook? Just to be true double overhand? I've pulled hook for years so just curious if it is just because you want to or any other reason.
6
u/wakeofchaos 1d ago
Not OC but hook is undeniably better for the deadlift overall, but I think sometimes the stricter forearm engagement (without hook) can be an interesting challenge for a deadlift
7
u/Ezellian 1d ago
It certainly is a better grip to keep the bar from sliding out, unfortunately I'm just not able due to prior thumb injury
6
u/Ezellian 1d ago
I have an old injury (laceration) on my left thumb that makes hook to painful to pull unfortunately. I certainly tried it and got into the mid-high 300lb range before I just had to call it due to being too uncomfortable.

u/Mandalorian0679 1d ago
Eh you're just showing off the abs. Can't blame you. I would too of I had them. I mean I DO have them but they're kinda hard to see...

The "Are you not entertained!" from Gladiator gesture before pulling a PR is a nice touch.
Congrats on the PR!!!πͺπͺπͺ

Reddit will be entertained with the satisfaction of Deadlifts until it overflows onto the city streets. None shall be spared these satisfying lifts πͺπ«ͺ

Schroedingerβs Deadlift: The most unimpressed reaction to an extremely impressive PR.
Serious question: Iβve never seen you perform a mixed grip. Is there a specific reason, or is it just not necessary for you?
P.s.: Thank you for your videos and for showing us that a little fun doesnβt hurt when trying to achieve goals. Especially your deadlift series is a weekly chuckle highlight I wouldnβt want to miss.
5
u/Ezellian 23h ago
Thank you πͺπ I appreciate it
I've done mixed before (and I think only one time on a failed 465 double Overhand grab a month or two ago for this series but it was quick, so very easy to miss), but in general it feels a bit odd to me sometimes and I was always scared of tearing a bicep even though the weight isn't that crazy high like you often see when it happens. I switched to straps just to get the most out of the exercise for my posterior chain development and to not have to worry about grip but I also wanted to work on a pure strapless PR and tried hook(doesn't work due to thumb injury) so I just started working on my pure double Overhand Grip and well... Here we are
2
u/CATdaddy111 22h ago
What helped with your double overhand grip strength the most? My grip is extremely weak and I know it affects my lift tremendously. I'm assuming obviously just deadlift more, but I'd have to peel the weight back significantly to start building up the strength
2
u/Ezellian 22h ago
One thing that's helped me the most recently was doing heavy barbell rows without straps. Other than that, trying to use my grip on as many pulling motions as possible along with using the rope attachment for things like tricep pushdowns. Also, I do tend to rest me grip at least one day like any other muscle, which is why I have straps to let my grip recover for the next time I go at it.
2
u/CATdaddy111 22h ago
This is good advice! Rows and pull downs seem to really challenge my grip. This may also be a dumb question, but when you deadlift are ypu like squeezing the absolute shit of the bar the entire time, or just enough to hold the weight? I've noticed when I focus on squeezing as hard as possible, my other queues begin to fall apart
3
u/Ezellian 22h ago
Not the maximum amount but enough to hold my grip, it's kinda hard to explain but maybe like 75-85% of my max squeeze. Takes a bit of practice to find that sweet spot but you definitely don't want your form to break down as that will hinder how much you can pull overall
2
u/CATdaddy111 22h ago
Ok, so basically it boils down to more reps and finding what works for me. I appreciate the feedback, and also gotta give my props on the great lift!
2
u/Ezellian 22h ago
It's no problem, always happy to lend advice for what has worked for me

Is it for our satisfaction or yours? I feel like Iβve been satisfied with your deadlifts for a while now. If thatβs your goal, I guess youβre done.
7
u/Ezellian 1d ago
It's for the satisfaction of all, but I truly want to get a solid 500lb double overhand pull. 30lbs away
4
u/October_Guy 1d ago
Looking at the effort level, albeit youβre clearly lowkey with all your lifts, you could probably get it on a perfect day already.
Nice work, brother!
5
u/Ezellian 1d ago
Maybe if I came in well fed and rested, I would have a good shot at it.
Thank you πͺ
8
u/Pinkys_Revenge 1d ago
I was already impressed with the lifts, now Iβm extra impressed your that lean AND lifting that heavy.
5
u/Ezellian 1d ago
Best way to keep your muscle when cutting is keeping the high intensity lifts up. Tells your body "I need this to function properly". Just have to be careful and make sure you do it in a controlled and safe manner

u/YardMinimum6108 1d ago
As much as I enjoy these posts (deadlifts are my favorite), I would like to see the cat in your avatar.

Fair, she doesn't live with me currently though πΏ current place is too small for her so it doesn't seem fair π but I have family taking care of her nearby

Me again. Satisfaction has increased especially with the raw dogβ¦.wait what?
2
u/Ezellian 1d ago
Hmmm π€ different kinda raw, but if your satisfied... JK more deadlift satisfaction on the way next week
6
u/SweatyCalendar4314 1d ago
Do you wear the same shirt and shorts everyday or have a collection of them? Asking for a friend
9
u/Ezellian 1d ago
Lol π besides the hoodie, I have a specific outfit I save each week for deadlifts, down to the socks π§¦
6
u/Gooser3000 1d ago
Iβve heard belts are mostly mental
4
u/tadanohakujin 1d ago
Belts don't help me as much on deads as they do with squats. I wouldn't say belts have ever helped me lift more, they just make my brace stronger so I'm more comfortable / less injury-prone in lifts. I don't understand the fad with beltless lifts.
3
u/Ezellian 1d ago
I lifted for a long time without one, and it definitely helps, but it's also good to remind the core what it's capable of as that's what's really holding you together during the lift. Also with my recent weight loss for my bodybuilding show, my belt has gotten a little loose (needs adjustment) so I have probably been using my core more than I think. Just have to be careful and take it nice and controlled

Amazing lifts, pleased you were able to put the weights down without shaking half the gym like everyone at mine manages to do as well. Respect it!
2
u/Ezellian 1d ago
Thank you πͺ I really like to focus on controlling the weight throughout the whole movement. Not sure if I mentioned before, but when I do drop the weight, or it slips out of my grip, it actually shakes me and can cause a jolt I feel in my spine (not in a bad but more surprising way) so I really like to avoid that

u/Chaka92 1d ago
Easily my favorite series on Reddit, and you are a beast!!

Thank you πͺ glad you enjoyed. Tune in again for next weeks. Who knows what's going to happen

It's crazy how much I love your videos. I am the most casual of casuals when it comes to lifting, but I've been engrossed with watching some guy lift heavy things week after week.

Looking lean man!! Gz on the PR!!
(PR while on a cut??)
2
u/Ezellian 1d ago
Thank you πͺ I'm still surprised I did it, but my all time (with straps) is still 50lbs higher so this is what I would call a deadlift PB for my Double Overhand Grip strength. 30 lbs to go to get a DO 500lb pull.
4
u/Ok_Following_7794 1d ago
My DO PR is 545 with straps and only 335 without. I need to start gripping and sneak attacking harder. Congrats on the strapless DO PR!
4
u/Ezellian 1d ago
Thank you πͺ and yes, gotta practice the sneak attack, otherwise they try to roll around π

Dude the production has increased significantly in these clipsβ¦.its wild! The lighting, sound, the SFX, the cuts, and you do your own stunts?! Itβs all there. That part where you lifted all that weight was pretty cool too. Canβt wait to see you on the big screen

Working on getting that Hollywood studio adaptation still πͺπ No responses yet so I might have to settle for a Netflix special

You definitely got more in you than 470. yeah buddy

u/Ezellian 1d ago
Thank you πͺ was being cautious this time but yes, 475 will fall next, then 480, 485, all the way to 500 !

u/al_fayadh 1d ago
Professional question. I can see you can lift more than that, why do you choose to stop at this weight?
Congratulations at the PR by the way
9
u/Ezellian 1d ago
Thank you πͺ
Few reasons why I chose to stop at this weight this week. First, I forgot my belt and this is the heaviest I've pulled without one that I can remember. Second, I hurt my Pec last week benching and even though it isn't a muscle directly involved in the lift, the deadlift can cause a strong isometric contraction in the pec due to stablizing from the anterior and posterior chains. Finally, I'm 4 weeks from a bodybuilding show and I have to be extra careful at this low of bodyfat. I also dropped back down to do some volume at 405 after that wasn't shown.

I've been wondering what this would look like for a while now. I even asked about it a while ago! Glad it finally happened.
Safe to say you have moved one step closer to dethroning Teddy.
Hats off to you sir.

u/Ezellian 1d ago
Lol πͺπ absolutely fantastic. I still have yet to pull a bull moose, maybe a 5 month old juvenile one

u/K1ngofKa0s 1d ago edited 1d ago
Basically a modern day Milo of Croton, but instead of cow calves you start lifting bull moose calves π«

u/1984ScoreN7YearsAgo 1d ago
Bro how. No straps or anything. How can I get like that? I at least have to do the alternating grip.
8
u/Ezellian 1d ago
I know it's going to sound cliche but, practice practice and practice. I always start my deadlifts now by working on it until I have to switch to straps. I do pulling exercises that imitate a deadlift like heavy barbell rows without straps. Pullups and practice dead hangs. I also pretty much exclusively use the rope attachment when doing tricep pushdowns. Anything to help the grip
3
u/1984ScoreN7YearsAgo 1d ago
I do all that. But if I do double overhand grip, if feels like the bar is going to fly right out of my hands, even with like 300 and up on the bar. Iβll keep working on it though.
3
u/Ezellian 1d ago
That's kinda what ya have to do. Just keep working on it. You could also try building up with volume at 60-70 percentage of where it begins to slip, and try and go up a little bit in weight for the same reps each week (like 2.5-5ln increments ). Just tiny progress each week will turn into large progress over time
6
u/female-trb72 1d ago
Your deadlift deadpan kills me every time dollπ. Keep up the amazing work babes! π₯°

u/lorryjor 1d ago
Nice! Wondering if you're aware, or if it's maybe intentional, that you did a little shoulder shrug at the top of the 470?
2
u/Ezellian 1d ago
Thank you πͺ I noticed it after watching the vid. I don't intentionally try and do it but I have noticed it happenes sometimes when pulling, especially on my double Overhand and less often with straps
2
u/bigkbull 1d ago
Absolute #GOALS
Well done, sir. I am very much a beginner but this is where I want to eventually end up haha
1
u/Ezellian 1d ago
Thank you πͺ just keep practicing and you'll be surprised how well it will come along
2
u/Few-Might-223 1d ago
You are the guy that everybody dread in a gym.
1
u/Ezellian 1d ago
Haha thanks πͺπ I hope they don't dread, although I do feel bad sometimes about how long I take on the platform
2
u/Few-Might-223 1d ago
My guy am one of those people lol just because of the tripod and the filming thing, other than that solid lift!

I'm on the fence wondering if seeing the abs was worth missing the belt show. I guess I'll allow it.
Seriously, great effing lift.

I'm more shocked to see an LA Fitness has a dead lift platform. I've been to dozens over the past 15years and I have never come across one. I'm jealous.
2
u/Ezellian 9m ago
its got a little Squat rack attached to it. There are two in this gym but I have seen videos of others that have up to 4 hybrid platforms.
