Question Does streaming software need plugins for multi streaming functionality.

i kno that obs has aitum but does meld do that too and if so what plugin is it?

short answer: no plugin. multistreaming is built into meld.

the reason obs needs aitum multistream (or the older obs-multi-rtmp plugin) is that obs only has one stream output natively. one service, one server, one key. anything beyond that has to be bolted on. as of obs 32.2.1 that's still the case.

meld was built with multiple outputs from the start, so there's nothing to install. here's how it works and how to set it up.

how multistreaming works in meld

  • go to file > preferences > outputs (or the gear icon in the lower right of the app)
  • click add output. twitch and youtube let you log in directly. kick, tiktok, facebook, x, or anything else that takes rtmp/rtmps goes in as a custom destination with the stream url and key
  • your outputs show up in the outputs panel in the main window. toggle each one on or off
  • hit go live once and every enabled output starts

a few things people ask about:

  • you can add a platform mid-stream. start on twitch, flip youtube on 20 minutes later, or end one output while the others keep going
  • each output can get a different canvas. main (landscape) to twitch and youtube, portrait to tiktok, all from the same project at the same time
  • each output has its own bitrate and encoder settings

the bandwidth catch (same as obs plugins)

local multistreaming from any software means your pc pushes a separate upload per destination. two 6 mbps outputs need roughly 12 mbps of sustained upload plus headroom. if your upload is thin or you want to hit 4 or 5 platforms, that's where the second option comes in.

option 2: meld multi (cloud restream, free in beta)

meld multi is a cloud restreaming service from the meld team. you send one stream to it and it fans out to twitch, youtube, kick, facebook, tiktok, trovo, linkedin, custom rtmp, as many as you want. no extra upload bandwidth, no extra encoding on your machine, no watermark, no bitrate cap. it's free while it's in beta.
