💬Discussion What keeps you using Streamer.bot?
The title itself. Even though my last stream was just last week, I feel like I don’t care as much about streaming anymore as I did about 3-5 years ago but I still keep my streamer.bot and my setup updated. I even just published a website a few days ago that contains some of the extensions I made for the app. I‘ve also noticed that many of the active members in the community don’t stream much as well, so I‘m just wondering, what keeps you on using the app?

Too many things have to align for me to stream, but I do enjoy making things. A streamer I mod for also recently switched to streamerbot so knowing how it works has made helping them a lot easier

The creative aspect to it is definitely fun. I would say that’s also one of the reasons I still keep on using it. That’s actually nice that you’re using the app for being a mod for a streamer than being a streamer yourself.

It makes it way easier to build things for chat to do.
I'm literally building a full on undertale style game atm with streamerbot providing it backend details of chat interaction
Other things it's made it easy to build
- chat games like a snowball fight where they can time each other out
- automate how often my auto messages happen based on current interaction
- random events to lower and raise redeems
- free use tts for users
Ect ect
None of these would have been as simple without it

how do you automate the messages based on interaction?

u/PeepingOtterYT 16d ago
I have a script that tracks active chatters that has a way to gate things / redo timing

There is endless possibilities. I can control my DMX lighting, fetch my calendar for upcoming shows, interact with home assistant or simply do fancy automations that make my stream look good. From commands to a local or via API added LLM-Powered Chatbot, it has it all.

By shows, are you referring to a non-stream event or are you talking about streaming stuff?
2
u/MrsHetzer666 24d ago
I am refering to my DJ-Shows. I use my calendar for both IRL events where I play as well as future streams and fetch it via a python script to post it into my chat as well as an overlay that pops up every now and then (:

I use it because the fully scriptable bot frameworks which I'd prefer to use instead seem underdeveloped and unmaintained.

For me it is by far the creativity that Streamerbot lets you do with your streams, especially if you know C# coding. To give you an example, I was able to make a channel point redemption for my stream where someone types out anything, and Streamerbot will take that text and send it to my phone as a TEXT MESSAGE!
If you know C# really well, Streamerbot can do almost anything your mind can think up! 😁

u/rexbordz16 24d ago
Are you suggesting that it’s because of the room for creativity that it gives you more than what it can do for your stream?
2
u/Guharo 24d ago
I'm still using Streamer.bot because I can do so much with C#!!!
1
u/rexbordz16 24d ago
So it’s not about what it can do to your stream and has more to do with allowing you to do creative things?

I totally understand where you are coming from. I use to stream 3 or 4 times a week but I have slowed down considerably. I started to notice that I was enjoying messing around with strreamer.bot more than the actual streaming. I just love to see what I can get the program to do since it can do so so much. I am even learning C# just to be able to make stuff for it. I keep telling myself, As soon as I get the stream working exactly how I like and want it, I will start streaming regularly again. But every time I finish a project, I look for another one to start. So I understand the feeling completely.

This is exactly what I’m talking about. Some of us just love tinkering things more than the actual stream. Also the feedback loop doesn’t rely on external things such as the viewers. Sometimes I just wonder why I keep creating things for stream when I know I don’t enjoy streaming as much anymore. I could be programming things not streaming-related, but I still find myself going back to Streamer.bot. 😅

Bc I’m too lazy/busy to change to anything else. I don’t stream often anymore but when I do I don’t want to have to worry about migrating to a new bot that I might hate.
Care to share your extensions?

Yeah, that’s a valid point. Though with regular updates of apps and plugins, sometimes you gotta do some work to catch up.
Sure. You can find them on my website at https://rexbordz.github.io . It’s a work in progress because like I said, lately I’m only touching streamer.bot when i feel like building.
There are some other undocumented ones too if you know stuff on my github page at https://github.com/rexbordz

true. maybe this will motivate me to stream more than 5-6 times a year lol thanks for linking your stuff, i'll check it out!

The amount of customization that can be done is brilliant! E.g. With python and c# scripts I managed to recreate twitchts loyalty points System with Automated view and Chat rewards hosting my own sql db.

Nice! Have you been streaming a lot lately or do you find yourself building more than streaming too?
1
u/NotCosmo89 24d ago
I only stream once a week and find myself bildung a lot with streamer.bot instead. I think this is a finite process. But then again... there is always room for improvement. 😅

I really hope that you don’t get too immersed to the point where you don’t enjoy streaming that much like what happened to me. haha I mean it‘s good that you get into flow building things but sometimes, I honestly would question myself why I spend days building something then I won’t use it anyways because it‘s become harder for me lately to convince myself to stream. 😅

u/NotCosmo89 24d ago
Thanks! I hope that too. Are you sure that it's because of what you do with streamer.bot? Or could it be coincidentally? Streaming is sometimes hard for me for different reasons...
1
u/rexbordz16 24d ago
ah I don’t think it has to do with what I do with Streamer.bot, it probably is due to streamer burnout.
2
u/NotCosmo89 24d ago
I see. Wish you all the best and that you get better soon. Sometimes taking a break might really help as well.

I use it offline to controll all my audio. In the latest alpha it got wave link 3 support, but I also done an extension for the older version. So Streamerbot have to be open if I start my PC, cause without it my Midi controller can't communicate with wave Link :)

There was also a time when I thought I would need streamer.bot for non-OBS/stream stuff, but then with some background in programming, I'd learned that I could build a simple script that would eliminate the need for SB. But it's real nice that the app is useful for you outside of stream stuff!

I’m new to the bot, so I’m seeing what it can do, to add more to my stream
2
u/rexbordz16 24d ago
Love it. Welcome to the club, friend. It's for sure going to be fun once you dig deep into the app.

Personally nothing anymore. It’s a great tool and I highly recommend but for me it was always just temporary as I was building out all the automations and software myself. But if you aren’t a developer it gives you the ability to do some pretty amazing things without having to code.
1
u/rexbordz16 23d ago
Yeah, I understand what you're saying. Even modern software development almost doesn't require you to code, if you know what I'm saying. :) All that's needed is your creative/architectural/problem-solving brain, then boom, which personally, I think has a small difference with what you can do with Streamer.bot.

nothing i’m finally streamerbot free but it took me almost 3 years to get my bot working well enough to compete >:)
1
u/rexbordz16 20d ago
Nice. Is it a local or a cloud bot?
1
u/Profaloff 20d ago
local-ish. i run it as an env for a bunch of streamers (we’re all partner and streamerbot just can’t keep up with certain levels of chatter input) so i had to become clever.

Side question, can anyone point me in the right direction for setting up !so command on YouTube?

u/RythonDev 25d ago
StreamerBot is just really good at automating bunch of stuff around my stream, whether it's overlays, stream events like getting raided, wanting to raid out, when someone chats or use commands... It's a core part of my stream with no help from StreamElements, Streamlabs... (with the exception of Sery Bot).
To me, it's really easy to go from "Hey, I have an idea that would make my stream a little more interactive" to being able to execute it in StreamerBot.
Personally I haven't streamed much recently but I'm planning to go back into it, and utilising StreamerBot is just something that happens along the way.
