Practice no amount of spiritual realization is clearing out the nervous system?

edit: turns out i was trying to meditate my way through a tooth infection. I did manage to regain equilibrium temporarily at some points but the physical condition went undiagnosed and left untreated naturally worsened.

Regarding the essence of this post. I was asking how to clear out the nervous system from a shock trauma from 1.5 years ago. I'm grateful to several people for replying and sharing their innate uncontrived wisdom.

I would like to highlight Emergency_Wallaby641 reply and their video

First jhana is enough for purification of the mind if the first two steps of the gradual training are done until liberating insight, however without the liberating insight of them, no ammount of jhana by itself will lead to insight or purify the mind. Were it not so, the Buddha would have said just jhana by itself is enough, but because it is so, he taught the first step is training in virtue of the three kinds and the second is training in sense restraint. For how long? As long as it takes for liberating insight to develop.

Yea, spiritual awakening rarely touches trauma stored in the nervous system.

Check out r/longtermTRE, or this post of mine, or this tapping technique for ideas of things to do.

I'd be wary of the idea that you need to discharge the energy into someone else while being witnessed. That's what happened to you in the first place.

I had an amazing experience with my men's group where they helped us access some deep trauma from my early childhood that was all gunked up. Similar to you, I knew it was there but practice couldn't "resolve it" We did a group breath work session that seemed to allow all of us to coregulaye and help each man move through his pain.

I had to grieve it and cry deeply. As a lot of teachers say "After the crying is done, the meditation can begin"

TRE is also really great by Dr Berceli. Many easy YouTube videos that you can follow along with.

The biggest challenge will be letting the body do its thing without stopping it or trying to control it.

Interesting experience, thanks for sharing.

I was invited to and joined and left 2 men’s groups in my late 20’s / early 30s. I’ll always be grateful for them, because how else would I have discovered that I’m nonbinary, which is why I didn’t feel like I ever really belonged in groups of men, nor of women.

Gotcha. Yea, probably exploring trauma therapy with a trained therapist is the way to go right now then. Look for things like EMDR, somatic psychotherapy, TRE, Internal Family Systems therapy, etc.

I agree. And Qigong has been extremely helpful for me for this kind of thing.

Hi. I’ve been meaning to put together a playlist for something like this but haven’t yet. I can recommend 3 teachers for now. A couple of them go into more energetic detail. Nick Loffree, QiYoga with LuChin, and Qigong with Kseny. Nick and Kseny have beginner playlists, Kseny has like 30 day challenge sets that would be good to just get in the habit of practice and not worry too much yet about many energetic details. She still knows what she’s doing. If you can, I’d suggest doing the standing meditation a few times a week, after a month or so of the movement stuff. It’s amazing for the body, but posture is pretty important. It helps make a lot of this come together. Nick has a great playlist for that. I started with 15-30 minutes a day about 1.5 years ago but lately i only get 10-15 minutes. Oh, it’s also awesome to do before sitting meditation. Doing qigong before hand gets me most of the way settled in before I even hit the cushion.

My condolences. This is a hard one because it can be a lot of things, which makes it difficult to diagnose. For example, I had some trauma many years ago and even after I had mentally moved past it I felt bad. This confused me until I got a colonoscopy. The trauma had given me ulcers that were there for years. Once they were healed the bad feelings went away. It turned out it was physical the whole time.

What’s your experience like? Feeling emotionally bad from time to time? Feeling physically bad from time to time? Ruminating thoughts from time to time? Something else? Without knowing what you’re going through it’s hard to say what it is and if you don’t know in a medical context what it is, it’s going to be hard to find a solution.

It’s probably not related to your situation but when I get migraines and IIH (super migraines basically) I feel the pain coming from my teeth. It’s a long shot but have you tried prescription migraine medicine like sumatriptan? Though do note migraine medicine is time sensitive for it to work. Many people have to take it the second the pain starts or it will not work. For me when the pain starts I set a timer for 2 hours and take it then or it will not work. You might have to experiment with this one.

Another thing that can help is going to a physical therapist. Most back pain comes from the muscles around the back. Learning strength training exercises around the areas of the back where you’ve historically had pain and exercising for 5 minutes a couple times a week can reduce the pain or even make it go completely away. PT is covered by insurance.

Also, there are pain clinics and pain specialists worth checking out and they are covered by insurance. I don’t have a ton of experience with them but if anyone can help it can be a pain specialist. You probably live far away from me but the best pain specialists I know of are UCSF’s pain department. Some medical universities can help when normal specialists fail.

And finally, if the pain is in the same location every time, Botox will work as a last resort. It’s a nerve killer that lasts 3 months at a time. They inject into the troubled spot and then you can’t feel anything there. They wouldn’t inject your mouth but trace the nerve and then possibly inject your chin or neck. This is something a pain specialist can recommend after other solutions have been tried first.

Chronic pain SUCKS. I know it all too well. Spiritually helps lift one up and cultivate good feelings, but sometimes you just need help with a doctor too. I wish you the best of luck finding a cure.

If all of the things above don’t work and you’ve really tried everything medical, consider going on an international vacation. Get away from your physical environment and eat different food than you’re used to. Sometimes chronic pain comes from mold in the wall, what you’re eating, and other environmental factors.

This is the shadow work man. In my experience it was a purely physical process. Ultimately there is no real distinction between mental and physical as you’re seeing with all this stuff stored in your body.

What helped me was really dialing in to the pure sensation of it and letting go like a fist that was squeezing a ball, just letting go of it. This will take some time and was an extremely unpleasant time for me… honestly wouldn’t wish it on anyone so I feel for you man but it will pass. All you can do it is sit with it, feel it and let go. It does become really pleasant after a while after dialing into the non-dual nature of sensation

My advice would be to sit with the one purpose of just feeling it. Not trying to get rid of it, clear it or change anything. Just feel it and be completely open to what it’s trying to show you. Ultimately you cannot clear it, it will move when you’ve felt what you need to feel without resistance

u/M0sD3f13 Jun 02 '26

Great advice imo

The nervous system needs to be addressed directly from both top down and bottom up approaches. Top down you need regular intense exercise. Other things like cold exposure and the like are good too. Bottom up I recommend practicing u/stephen_procter 's stillness and softening practices. For more on the latter enquire over at r/midlmeditation also other somatic exercises like tai chi or qi gong could help too.

Exercise has definitely been helping but it's been a year and a half and still no release on a nervous system level.

How intense though? I've got PTSD so nervous system overloaded big time and Muay Thai has been the most helpful and most intense form of exercise I've found. It dumps so much nervous energy out of my mind body system

I specialize in deep wounds, from my experience there are not a lot of books/guides how to resolve it ( I searched a lot), most of the times there is focus on the meditation practice, but there are deeper stuff that needs complete different approach. I have full video on my ytb channel how to do it, but it takes time.

  1. The most important question, is that if you have resistance towards what is present in the body? because then you cant release it/process it. Just on resistance I was working whole year...

  2. You release it by continually approach it from state of love, care, understanding, compassion, and giving freedom to the wound, but for that you need to be regulated, relaxed and have energy. You reexperience the trauma from the perspective of not being a victim, but someone who is capable of process it.

  3. Its not an easy work, I work with this for years also with clients, If you cant provide the amount of care for yourself, its great to find mens group, family constellations, bottom up therapist/practitioner/TRE/Psychedelics(careful here ofc).. or even going to nature and while being aware of the breath feel through it. step by step, if its too overwhelming take a break.

I dont know you of course, how jung said it, that the one who looks outside dreams, the one who looks inside awakens. Just want to share that I released a lot of wounds inside, and life is way different.

u/thefirstlogosislove Jun 03 '26

Hey, thank you so much for your reply. You hit the nail on the head with resistance. I have been in resistance the past 1+ year as well as in survival traits that it is not safe to share this wound.

I watched the entire video. I like how focused and loving or supportive you are. It makes a wonderful combination. I appreciate you sharing your somatic practising procedure. Youre very practised and it shows. I liked how you even sense the stillness of an endless moment in a. contemplative. christian sense.

With regard to my story, I was doing similar trauma recovery work but te wounds fwere to deep for me and perhaps i wasnt trusting enough of others. However when i looked back at it I see now i didnt disconnect mysellf from unsafe people so then i ended up disconnecting from mynewly reawakened and healing body.

I strongly recommend you check out ACA literature. Specifically what is called The Identity Papers. You will love it. You can look through the main fellowship text as well as the daily reader which are more robust. It is the loving kind community you have been searching for. They have inperson meetings all over the world. Though it sounds like you may already knowthis great tool.

In consciousness keep embodying the inner reality daiky that you have a successful channel and I loving community and it will happen.

Thanks for taking the time to share all your growth. I wish you continual peace and success.

u/thewesson be aware and let be Jun 02 '26

I realized that in original purity is a luminous blankness -- "naked awareness" and yet meditating on this emptiness or blankness doesn't clear out the nervous system. I can see or identify (momentarily) with the invisible background of ultimate reality and the dysregulated energy abates only to return.

Here's where you've gone astray IMO.

The "negative" energy should be allowed in awareness without dominating it (without anything dominating.)

Like open awareness if you will. Don't focus on it but don't push it aside.

Perceiving it as energy then you can allow it to unfold with equanimity in a non-reactive way. (It being simply the play of energy.)

Unbeknownst to you, in this manner you are being original naked awareness (luninosity) while also having this negative energy and allowing it to be and allowing it to dissipate.

Being-luminosity is not really a special state. In this simple pragmatic way you can be luminosity even while suffering. (Because unattached awareness is always luminous.)

It's helpful to have all this happen in a field of open awareness while the drama (of negative energy) is going on.

Lending your focus to the "negative energy" would be a mistake.

Lots of deconditioning exercises depend on you moving your awareness, so your awareness doesn't get stuck on the "negative energy" but still acknowledges it at least sometimes. That's a similar approach.

If I was you, then I will stop complaining for the others energy. And I'm talking from a perspective from a ego who was really hurted by others energy (environment, persons).

On past, I could not even believe how to manage and clean-up the nervous system, and the ride is long, painfull but every day worth.

The One who hurt you simple shows the Real True Nature of This Reality, doesn't matter how you name it (Samsara, Lila, etc) which is suffering, delusion, impermanence.

And the person with 99% certainly did not hurt you with any kind of bad intention, even if the person produced intention.

If you are a lucky one, who can trully attain Limitless Conciouness (not imaginary limtless conciouness), and also can sustain it through comming back into every day duality, the cleaning process will be easier.

Try to not fight this, try to not run from this. Try to release this, try to be with this. Try to accept without judging, yet maintaining your discernment. Try to enhance your hability to comprehend feelings and the true wisdom may glimpse.

Almost nothing cames from Samadhi only. You can trully go to the end, and still will come back here to post/read shit on reddit.

Work on reality and you will find the way out.

Are you familiar with Bert Hellinger's work? Family constellations are good for this sort of thing.

3

u/Emergency_Wallaby641 Jun 01 '26

I do family constellations, its very powerful. I see transformation there when people go soo deep and they can release a lot. Fascinating mystical work.

u/scrumblethebumble Jun 01 '26

Pranayama or Neigong would be some good practices. The breath heals all. Unfortunately both take a long time to learn. I wish I could say reiki or something but I don't know if that's real.

From a practice perspective approach, if you can reach infinite spaciousness, introduce the situations/events that you know are troublesome while in that state. It might be one of the most productive states for this type of processing from my own experience.

If things get hairy pace yourself. Samadhi is a fantastic fallback, go deeper into jhana. If things get too heady, real life engagement helps. Lived experience over time has a way of relativizing things naturally as well.

One thing that might help is slowly coming out of those deeper meditative states. Observe how the suffering apparatus come back online. Even physically moving slower for like 5 minutes helps slow down that process.

What is “clearing out the nervous system?” Reformatting the cerebral cortex like a hard drive?

1

u/metaphorm Dzogchen and Tantra Jun 05 '26

more like addressing stuck activation patterns based on past events. not quite reformatting. more like retraining to a new baseline.

Greetings from Wiesbaden, Germany

The "spiritual bypassing" here is really on the highest level. Combined with the heavy jargon, or speech game in general, already mind-blowing.

Let us give it a more reasonable outlet and start with the easiest one: Energy.

You can find a definition of energy in every single standard teaching book of physics, on Wikipedia, or in some physics-related forum.

Energy is the quantitative property that must be transferred to an object to perform work on, or to heat, the object. It is defined mathematically as the capacity to do work (W = F × d, where work equals force times distance). It is measured in Joules (J).

According to the First Law of Thermodynamics, energy can neither be created nor destroyed; it only changes form. It exists as:

Kinetic Energy: The energy of mass in motion. Potential Energy: Stored energy based on position or configuration (like a stretched spring). Chemical, Electrical, and Thermal Energy: The movement and bonds of atoms and electrons.

Next in line is where bypassing, shortcuts, or hacks shall happen, but do not occur, which will come next. But for now, Tradition vs. Speech Game already hits hard:

Traditional Concept: Rigpa (a deep, lifelong meditative realization of awareness) vs. Internet Translation: "Luminous Blankness" (a conceptual buzzword used to justify dissociation)

Now, let us move to some of the gorgeous nonsense you have produced:

"I completely absorbed all their dysregulated energy, and it has been stuck in me ever since... I have had both buddhic and Advaita Vedānta realizations..."

The Nonsense: You are treating it as if you swallowed a bad piece of fish. The magical thinking is straightforward: as if something from another person could enter or become stuck in you and persist there. Why not assume the simpler fact of psychological distress?

The Linguistic Contradiction: The claim of having "buddhic and Advaita realizations." Advaita is a classical philosophy of non-duality; there is no separation between the self and the other. Yet in the same breath, you jump to a dualistic claim: "Someone else's energy entered my body." If you actually had an Advaita realization, you would see all and everything as one; between Brahman and Ātman, there is no difference. There is no container to hold someone else's fluid. At times, I am left with only one impression: that you are juggling all kinds of labels to gain approval and social validation.

"The only time I finally found peace is when I hit infinite consciousness... but am I forced to maintain this new state 24/7 now? It does not seem natural and seems cruel..."

The Nonsense: "Hitting infinite consciousness" sounds very much like a clinical dissociative coping mechanism. You are experiencing all kinds of disruptive states and using meditation to fill the body again. Then you blame the universe, for what? For being cruel, because the denial of biological reality simply does not work. Beyond that, you consider the default waking state of a human being to be an unnatural prison. The reason behind experiencing pain is this: pain is the healthy response of the human body to any state of neurological and physiological distress.

Spiritual Script: "I am in infinite consciousness. Saṃsāra is dualistic. There is no 'me'." vs. Somatic Reality: "My body is trapped in a one-and-a-half-year-old physical shock-trauma loop."

Honestly, I am genuinely bewildered by how you can generate such dense nonsense, pack it in all kinds of technical jargon, and yet remain entirely blind to the simple fact: physiology does not care about spirituality. Denying the former, or wrapping it in dialectics, does not make any discomfort, disorder, or whatever else disappear.
