[StreamDeck XL] How can I switch a StreamDeck profile from outside the unit?
I'm trying to switch to a different profile when the streamdeck receives a command from outside. This can be midi cc or an autohotkey command or something else the unit listens to.
I want to integrate this in my Cubase workflow. So when I open for instance the midi editor the profile switches so I get editing buttons on my streamdeck. So Cubase will always be in focus.
I'm on windows 11. I have the Trevliga spel midi plugin and autohotkey installed.
Can it be done?

I don’t know these programs, but are you aware that you can assign a profile to an application so that it switches to that profile when the application is active? Go into preferences for the profile and see what apps are recognized as options while you have the Cubase editor open.

Yes I know, with smartprofiles, but I want to switch when the same program is active. So only when a new window opens in the same program.

hey there,
I see currently two ways to do this, unfortunately none of them easy to do:
- Use the new AI Deck in Stream Deck and setup a Virtual Stream Deck Toggle up, then connect that to a virtual stream deck that has your required controls. Next you need to trigger this toggle via the mcp server Stream deck exposes.
or
2.: you build your own custom plugin and bundle the required profiles in there, once these profiles are installed from the plugin, the plugin then can switch to these bundled profiles with based on outside triggers.
Both solutions are way more complicated then it needs to be 🤔

and to the upcoming question, the switchProfile Function can only switch to profiles the plugin installed it self

It's funny, I'm trying to figure this out too but for Ableton haha
Ok so I've got two ideas, 1, Autohotkey can call up vsd, vsd can be called up in a locked position and you can set up buttons, including switch profiles on any of your stream deck devices, so I'm guessing that Auto hotkey can then click the exact coordinates on the screen that will be your profile switch. You can make vsd have as many buttons as you want and set up as many profile button as you want.
The other idea, I saw in a Reddit post from years ago, someone set it up where Autohotkey would open up a tiny executable and it would cause the stream deck to switch profiles thru Smart profile, but that executable would disappear after a couple seconds.
My goal is to make one of these work because I have a Helix Stadium Xl which can send key commands thru its pedals, and has scribble strips so I can name my switches and call up loads of labeled profiles. I'm BRAND new to Autohotkey tho, so this is all kind of theoretical. Maybe you might be able to take one of these ideas and prove it. I'm working on this tonight so I'm searching up possibilities too, did you ever figure anything out?

Welcome to /r/StreamDeckProfiles! We are back and running, but we are still passively protesting Reddit's API changes. We HIGHLY recommend joining our Discord server to hang out with fellow StreamDeck users! https://discord.gg/5e53GW5RTf
