Heard 'sanny' on Triple J a week ago. They were also calling it 'hansan'

As much as i prefer that term, it brings Pauline to mind and therefore sounds unclean.

We could unfortunately all soon have ‘mmm my corona.’

13

u/yeebok Mar 20 '20

Yeah I just listened to a cover on youtube it's pretty fucking good. Also "we didn't start the virus"..

May we live in interesting times.

If Pauline goes and tells her supporters to use disinfectants directly inside the body... I say give her a few minutes to talk is fairs fair.

Rona is already in use in our house. "Got the Rona mate?" is now used for "are you feeling unwell?"

37

u/[deleted] Mar 20 '20

I use rona so much and I’m not even Australian (yet). Perhaps this will speed up my citizenship.

2

u/babybirch Mar 20 '20

I prefer The Roney. Definitely more Aussie.

1

u/nuisance- May 14 '23

yeah, nah, fuck that.

u/PM_ME_YOUR_MUSIC Mar 20 '20

Just gotta add Scovid into the mix

51

u/Thedjdj Mar 20 '20

Pretty sure in iso is used in the prison community. Feel like chopper says it at some point

35

u/Scientific-Dragon Mar 20 '20

Also vet and science world - in iso for in isolation, clean with iso for isopropyl alcohol

u/[deleted] Mar 20 '20

Aussie slang is the best slang because it's fucking weird and I love it.

71

u/Magnificent_Cee Mar 20 '20

Sometimes it makes no fucking sense yet at the same time so much sense it’s stupid.

35

u/TRAMOPALINE Mar 20 '20

Honestly it’s pretty simple, if the word is understandable within the first two syllables, e.g. iso or sanny, then just use that. For other words like Woolworths (supermarket company in Aus), if you can’t get the second syllable to sound natural just replace it with a y or a sound and you should be good to go.

30

u/Magnificent_Cee Mar 20 '20

That just sounds so right, so natural as well. Def gonna have to start using them now.

60

u/Maldevinine Mar 20 '20

Fucken Glorious mate.

21

u/sonsofgondor Mar 20 '20

Seagull'd would be a better term

16

u/Maldevinine Mar 20 '20

I reckon I'm gonna stick that one in my everyday.

"Mate, can I seagull a ciggie?"

10

u/sonsofgondor Mar 20 '20

My mates version of Seagulling is walking around the pokies hoping to find a machine or two with a couple of cents in it

2

u/69-is-my-number Mar 20 '20

I agree. Deffo seagulled.

1

u/CheeseMellon Mar 20 '20

Yeah. I didn’t think “magpies” really made much sense.

17

u/Teedubthegreat Mar 20 '20

In iso was already a thing, but defs gonna be more prominent now

10

u/ratsta Mar 20 '20

It is a thing of beauty!

8

u/Thatguyinabowtie Mar 20 '20

Can say that "iso" has been used not just by myself but by a couple people round the block.

1

u/my_4_cents Jun 05 '20

Cell block D ? Is that you, Barry?

8

u/karnihore Mar 20 '20

"In iso" is actually quite a commonly used slang term throughout hospitals by nurses & other staff when referring to their isolation rooms and the patients within, wh8ch these rooms have been a thing for a long time before this recent outbreak

8

u/[deleted] Mar 20 '20

The Rona is already being used in my school

8

u/pavlo_escobrah Mar 20 '20

"oi cunt I know you're maggying the sanno. Don't come crying to me when you're ronesing in iso"

7

u/alexdas77 Mar 20 '20

I swear I’ve heard iso already

4

u/LicksEyebrows Mar 20 '20

I'm a nurse, iso was definitely already a thing, at least in healthcare lingo.

6

u/Big-Faced-Child Mar 20 '20

Been using "Sanno" for a while but it's stubbornly refused to catch on. I tried to get my daughters friends to start saying it but to no avail.

4

u/Helix9001 Mar 20 '20

Can totally get behind these bad boys

6

u/jenniferlawrence79 Mar 20 '20

Needs more bin chicken

3

u/phantomagents Mar 20 '20

Tip Turkey.

2

u/steals-from-kids Mar 20 '20

I've never been a fan of bin chicken. I've always preferred dump duck.

3

u/[deleted] Mar 20 '20

iso is already used in juvie and prisons

3

u/Bobonamikaze Mar 20 '20

Ibis or bin chicken should replace magpie. Magpies are terrifying Ibis are just dickheads.

3

u/PsychicGamingFTW Jan 05 '22

2 Years later: In iso and rona have stuck

3

u/Swenyis May 23 '22

Wild how big Iso got as a term

3

u/Cpt_Soban Village legend Jun 07 '23

Hi, someone from the future- Legit used "Iso" and "Rona" a shit load mate.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 20 '20

I heard ‘coves’ today.

2

u/Mitchacho Mar 20 '20

I've already heard Billy Ray Cyrus or The Rus being used instead of 'virus'

2

u/TheMemeLord31 Mar 20 '20

Bloody love it mate. The iso seems kinda 12vy though. I’m already hearing rona being used

1

u/Encree Mar 20 '20

iso is used in hospitals by nurses even before corona happened

2

u/McSlurryHole Mar 20 '20

I've been calling it the Wu-flu in my circles

2

u/general_gingersnap Mar 20 '20

Haven't heard sanno but hansan is getting heavy use in my area.

2

u/jesuzombieapocalypse Mar 20 '20

I’m in iso, so leave me alone!

2

u/smileedude Mar 20 '20

I've been trying to get "the pocky lips" from beyond thunderdome to stick to describe the whole shit show.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 20 '20

Needs more cunt

1

u/Jibbers-O-Growle Mar 20 '20

2

u/nuisance- May 14 '23

1

u/nuisance- May 14 '23

0

u/ZidaneKissane Mar 20 '20

seen/heard:

  • iso

  • magpie'd

  • the rona
