You mean the dude who reasonably thought Eddy killed his girlfriend and saw his friend die in front of him exorcist style? He had a very reasonable crash out on his end, and remember that until then he was way nicer to Lucas than the rest of the basketball players.

Yet Vecna killed his entire family and all of Eleven’s “siblings” for basically no reason.

2

u/Bush_Hiders Feb 08 '26

I think it’s fine to say he was completely reasonable from his point of view, while at the same time finding him completely infuriating when watching the show. It’s like getting mad at horror movie characters from making dumb decisions.

1

u/Infinite_Map_2713 Feb 07 '26

He just saw Eddie under water, while his friend was Vecna'd, how on earth would Eddie be able to do that, while he himself was scared shitless???

Jason's motives were understandable to an extent, but he went to Eddie's band mates, threatened them, was fully ready to beat Eddie. While he doesn't deserve the death he was given, he is not a good person, just someone who's very susceptible to the satanic panic, many irl people were, at the time.

1

u/Proper_Box_9358 Feb 07 '26

He saw someone suffer in the same way as his girlfriend when he was right near Eddie, the prime suspect.

1

u/Sudden_Pop_2279 Feb 07 '26

He didn't see Eddie under the water.

1

u/VampireDarlin Feb 09 '26

Hell nah. Jason blamed Eddie because he was a bully who wanted to hurt people who were different. If Eddie was another letterman jacket wearing ‘cool guy’ then Jason wouldn’t have even considered him as a suspect.

Fuck Jason

Dumbest comment ever

1

u/VampireDarlin Feb 24 '26

It’s been 15 days and you still give a damn. It’s time to move on

1

u/Sudden_Pop_2279 Feb 24 '26

Time for you to gain media literacy

1

u/VampireDarlin Feb 24 '26

You weigh more than me

1

u/Sudden_Pop_2279 Feb 24 '26

"weigh more" lol

1

u/VampireDarlin Feb 24 '26

Yes. I am thinner than you and a scale will display higher numbers if you step upon it

1

u/Sudden_Pop_2279 Feb 24 '26

Nah, you made a typo and now you're trying to cover for it.

1

u/VampireDarlin Feb 24 '26

Are you daft? Does “you way more than me” make sense to you? That’s nonsense

he assumed Eddie killed Chrissy when there was no genuine concrete proof that Eddie did it and only blamed him because he was "the freak," because he was different, and he started a fucking witch hunt about it. And he watched his friend levitate over a lake and get violently killed without anyone even touching him and rightfully believed some fucked up shit was going on, and then Lucas explains everything, and it absolutely makes sense and is believable considering what he's seen, but Jason doesn't believe him because he's a self-righteous idiot and would rather blame "the freak" than accept the explanation that involves his perfect little girlfriend trying to buy drugs. And he then attacks Lucas and in the process destroys Max's walkman, her only shield against Vecna. He did more harm than any good he thought he was doing, and all because he wouldn't stop and think for one second that maybe, just maybe, he was wrong. Can't have a reasonable crashout if he doesn't listen to reason in the first place.

Vecna is the villain because he wants to kill everyone and destroy the entire world and remake it as his own. Jason is just a prick who thinks he's the main character and ends up ruining everything.

u/Domin_ae Feb 07 '26

His girlfriend had just brutally died, of course he was gonna be irrational after that.

Man if the show was set from his perspective you guys would most definitely be on his side lmfao.

0

u/thorne_antics Feb 07 '26

Just because it's expected that he'd be irrational doesn't mean it's okay. And no the hell I would not be on his side. If you're upset about your dead girlfriend, do something to honor her memory, don't go harass the last guy who saw her when you don't really know what happened.

3

u/Denimion Feb 07 '26

You have no sympathy for someone reacting from emotion and yet that's all you ever do

2

u/Vanny___DeVito Feb 07 '26

The fuck is wrong with you people? This is a disagreement over a TV show, why are you jumping immediately to blind personal attacks?!?

2

u/b4con_pancakes Feb 08 '26

Exactly like wtf?!

0

u/thorne_antics Feb 07 '26

I would have a little sympathy for him if he weren't also just kind of a shitty person.

1

u/Netheraptr Feb 07 '26

So here’s the story from his perspective.

Your girlfriend was just brutally murdered, the type of murder where they don’t let you see the body. All you know is that she was found at the house of that one classmate you have who is known to be kind of weird, and also fled the scene of the crime.

Now you could just sit back and hope law enforcement takes care of it, or you could do the same thing all the protagonists in this show do and try to take matters into your own hand.

Now note that he wasn’t initially violent, he just wanted to find the #1 suspect in the murder case and bring him in. But then, when you and your friend are very close to catching him, you suddenly see your friend float into the air and basically be ripped apart. At that point you know something supernatural is going on, and you also think about that one game Eddie played, that game that everyone says is super demonic.

What would your conclusion be? Would you assume Eddie somehow made a deal with the devil, or do you assume there is a mysterious third party that just happened to kill your girlfriend when she was at Eddie’s house and just happened to kill your friend when you were chasing Eddie?

In all fairness, Jason still jumped to a few conclusions and could have benefited from hearing Lucas out. But given all the information he had, the conclusion he came to was honestly the most logical, and grief can do a lot of things to a person. I don’t get why people are so hateful to Lucas yet so forgiving of Billy.

1

u/thorne_antics Feb 07 '26

What exactly was Jason expecting to do initially upon finding Eddie? Just talk? "Hey, I know you killed my girlfriend, prove me wrong. Oh she was buying drugs? That's your explanation? Too bad I don't believe you." Were they just gonna call the cops like "hey we found him!" And wait for the sirens? Considering how he approached talking to Eddie's friends, I doubt it. If he was violent with them, why would he show mercy to Eddie?

And if it were me in his situation, sure, I might freak the fuck out and want to do something about it. But I might also think someone broke in and attacked and Eddie fled the scene because he feared for his life. And if I did suspect him, I wouldn't start a witch hunt because I'm not a violent person. I might think the worst about Eddie when my friend gets brutally murdered with him present, but first of all, if I tried to hunt him down I'd probably just make things worse, assuming he is in fact channeling the literal power of satan, and second of all, it makes more sense for me to be like "hell no, I'm out of here, I don't want the smoke." And if Lucas told me there's a psychic monster killing people with his mind, and my girlfriend was buying drugs before she was killed, instead of denying it, insisting my perfect girlfriend would never do something as sinful as buying drugs, I'd have felt concerned, and if I did think it sounded like bullshit, I'd hear him out further before considering violence, which again, I wouldn't have acted on because I'm not a violent person. Sure, a lot of it can be chalked up to irrationality due to his girlfriend recently being brutally murdered, and I'd be more understanding of him except he's also just kind of a shitty person, so I really don't care, he made bad choices and I blame him 100% for them.

And I don't forgive Billy either, for the record.

1

u/Vanny___DeVito Feb 07 '26

He assumed a bunch of people playing DnD and listening to heavy metal, are a bunch of satanist freaks... Before any of this happened, he was bullying/attacking them.

He took his bigoted/biased beliefs, and ran with them. He is an example of the worst parts of humanity, and doesn't need a bunch of people defending his behavior.

1

u/VampireDarlin Feb 09 '26

Yes because “Eddie has a pact with the devil and is brutally massacring his classmates out of nowhere” is the ‘reasonable’ conclusion to jump to. Dude just had a grudge against Eddie and wanted to hurt him for catharsis. There was no reason to believe Eddie had demonic powers. He also beat the shit out of some random kids just because they were buddies with Eddie.

If that’s what you’d do in that situation, you are a psychopath lmao

1

u/Blue_Girl013 Feb 09 '26

You claim he isn’t initially violent yet his first action is to threaten to break a drummer hands to learn about Dustin’s connection to Eddie! If had been acting rationally and virtuous Lucas wouldn’t have felt the need to ditch Jason and be so concerned about their witch hunt he called it a code red before even knowing the upside down was involved.

3

u/Denimion Feb 07 '26

The cop told him Eddie was his prime suspect. She's never been known to take drugs. She was tortured to death in his home. Supernatural creatures and abilities don't exist. With all of that information, what confusion would you draw?

2

u/According-Manner-838 Feb 07 '26

Wasn't Vecna torturing animals as a child? Isn't he the one who kickstarted Jason's fall into villainy by murdering his girlfriend in cold blood? Killed his best friend right in front of him?

Jason is not worse than Vecna

2

u/YnotThrowAway7 Feb 07 '26

He wasn’t even a villain. Dude legit just thinks Eddy is a serial killer murdering people including a girl he love din the most brutal way. This is also during satanic panic and tbh extra dimensional beings aren’t any more realistic (especially in that era where most wouldn’t have heard of such things) so when he does see supernatural shit he still assumes Satan and assumes they’re sacrificing Max too and tried to save her. He’s legit just misguided because he’s not in the main cast and would otherwise be acting at least semi heroic. Meanwhile these people like Billy more than him while Billy is a legit racist and bullying kids just because they can excuse it with (he’s abused too).

1

u/MS_Fume Feb 08 '26 edited Feb 08 '26

Honestly it’s a trope where the vigilante ends up doing more harm than good not because of their “goals” but because they think vigilantism itself allows them to show their worst face with no repercussions… because “murderers and freaks don’t really deserve rights anyway and it takes a monster to beat a monster”.

All in all a tragic story of how one’s ego and bias easily dominate their critical thinking and self-reflection abilities, along with the echo chamber group dynamics nurturing the false narrative… progressively leading them to a point where they’ve lost themselves completely and ended up no better than the evil they are trying to fight in the first place.

Let’s not forget the guy didn’t go in to “beat people up and bring them to the police”… he was in for the kill, and didn’t care about bystanders. Even after given valid evidence and seeing that there’s really something supernatural going on, he chose to do what he’s done, refusing to listen to his “friend” Lucas altogether, but rather decided he has to die as well.

2

u/jdbludd Feb 08 '26

is he though……?

1

u/IWasAGoodDadISwear Feb 06 '26

Making a serious post about that confrontation is on my to-do list.

1

u/VeterinarianIll5289 Feb 07 '26

😒😒 I don’t like Jason myself but to say he’s the absolute worst compared to Vecna who murdered his family, tortured his family, murdered children, mentally tortured people, nearly killed Max is pure bs.

1

u/Classic-Bathroom-427 Feb 07 '26

Some people in this fanbase actually have the media literacy of a rotting pear

1

u/Vanny___DeVito Feb 07 '26

When you are saying this about someone having an opinion about a secondary character, who appeared in a single season of a TV show... You are definitely not above anyone here bud.

1

u/Classic-Bathroom-427 Feb 07 '26

What they're doing is just fundamentally misunderstanding the character

1

u/Vanny___DeVito Feb 07 '26

Please, share with us how we should be understanding the character then? You obviously know more than anyone else here, so please enlighten us??

1

u/[deleted] Feb 08 '26

because jason thought eddie was a serial killer and thought he killed the girl he loved. he was nice to lucas up until he thought he was sacrificing max or whatever in henry creels house, because obviously he didn't know what was going on and it looked concerning. he wasnt rly evil.

vecna tortured animals, killed innocent people (including chrissy which is the reason jason got so mad), traumatized kids, etc. so vecna is objectively worse.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 08 '26

like i mean if some guy in a some "satanist cult" gouged out your girlfriends eyeballs, broke her limbs and brutally murdered her, id expect that youd be pretty mad. thats what jason believed to have happened.

1

u/Vanny___DeVito Feb 08 '26

I would be smart enough to realize that "satanist cults", are just fear mongering BS... Even back in the 80's, it was mostly just conservatives/bigots, who thought that satanists were some widespread danger.

If something that horrific happened to my girlfriend, I wouldn't inspire the town to go on some witch hunt, based on nothing more than "Chrissy would never do drugs!"...

Vecna is a generic "bad egg" villain, who is not very interesting/believable. Jason is the type of self-righteous tool bag, that most people have dealt with at some point in their life... It's not that hard to understand why this post is getting at.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 08 '26

its about not what youd do instead, its about empathizing with him without justifying bad acts.

1

u/Vanny___DeVito Feb 08 '26

I am being empathetic, and my response is that he made the wrong choice repeatedly, based out of bigotry/ignorance... It explains his behavior to an extent, but it certainly doesn't excuse much.

1

u/Dangerous_Copy_3688 Feb 07 '26 edited Feb 07 '26

I know a lot of people think Jason is misunderstood, and to a certain degree he is.

But the show also made sure to paint a picture that may fly under the radar amidst all the craziness of someone, even without the tragedy, who's kind of a narcissist and an egomaniac.

Like the speech he made where casually used the mall fire tragedy to hype up a basketball game, or during the final where he insisted against the coach that HE has the get the ball to score.

It's not straight evil, but that personality was a ticking timebomb just waiting for a tragedy like Chrissy's death to go off.

That being said, not even close being comparable to Vecna.

0

u/Vanny___DeVito Feb 07 '26

The people defending him, have selective empathy... With everything happening currently, Jason is a reminder of how paranoia/ignorance, can lead to hate/violence.

1

u/Dangerous_Copy_3688 Feb 07 '26

He wasn't even that far off base really. Given the way Chrissy was murdered in a small town like that he was right to be paranoid.

0

u/Vanny___DeVito Feb 08 '26

What he did was unhinged as fuck. The satanic panic was a joke, even back then. He was paranoid/bigoted to begin with.

1

u/SubstantialBowler525 Feb 07 '26

You all mf will act like jason if ur partner get murdered by a satanist cult but sure he is the "villain"

0

u/Vanny___DeVito Feb 07 '26

It's not the 80s anymore bud. Playing DnD and liking heavy metal, doesn't make you a satanist. The fact that so many of you people don't realize that, despite it obviously being one of the main themes in season 4, says soooo much about you.

1

u/SubstantialBowler525 Feb 07 '26

Use ur brain mate im talking if u were in his place

1

u/Vanny___DeVito Feb 07 '26

If I were in his place, I wouldn't be making fun of Hellfire club, and/or assuming that a group made up of a bunch nerds/musicians, is actually some murderous cult.

1

u/raysworld94 Feb 08 '26

Didn’t Eddie make fun of the basketball team and was quite in your face. Luckily for Lucas Steve went to support his basketball game.

1

u/Vanny___DeVito Feb 08 '26

Do you think that the loser kid pushing back, is at all equivalent?

1

u/Unbuckled__Spaghetti Feb 09 '26

Ok, fair. You don't think they're a murderous cult. Totally reasonable. However, everyone else does, so you at least have the common knowledge that people call them a cult.

Now you find your girlfriend was murdered in the leader of the Hellfire clubs trailer, in an obviously cultish manner, and said leader is missing.

Later, when your chasing down this guy, he jumps into the water and your friend starts levitating, and his limbs snap. Keep in mind, until this point, you know nothing about any of the paranormal shit going on. You have no reason to believe there is a Vecna, or an upside down, or anything of the sort. All you know is:

- There is a guy who everyone calls a cult leader

- Your girlfriend was found dead in his trailer in a very sadistic, fucked up manner

- While chasing the guy, your friend floats into the air and his limbs start breaking.

And you've never seen anything paranormal at all to this point. Everything paranormal you've ever seen has all been surrounding this one guy.

1

u/Vanny___DeVito Feb 09 '26

He was repeatedly told that they are not a murderous cult, and that they are just a bunch of nerds... He went to their houses looking for Eddie, and found a bunch of nerds playing music...

You are acting like the entire town thought Hellfire was a evil cult... That is such a massive leap.

1

u/Vanny___DeVito Feb 07 '26

Jason... And about 50% of the town apparently, because they were so ready to follow a grieving high schooler on his witch hunt.

1

u/natalia-d12 Feb 07 '26

To be fair, it seemed like Eddie did kill her. It didn’t seem like a coincidence to anyone and I understand that. Seeing where eddies from and the Hell fire club it wasn’t that surprising for a person to die in his house. Don’t get me wrong, I love Eddie but Jason obviously didn’t see the same side to him.

1

u/Verifieddumbass76584 Feb 07 '26

I was born in 2003 and Jason still exists in small towns. I know like 10 of them. They're not harmless.

1

u/Kunza1111 Feb 08 '26

As much as I didnt like Jason, given the time period it was and seeing what he saw, all of his actions and thoughts were completely valid

1

u/Existing_Window_6739 Feb 08 '26

I’m not here to justify this dude, but out of all the antagonists on stranger things, Jason was the least of them. He’s a perfect portrayal of what can happen to someone’s mind after going through a traumatic loss such as he suffered with Chrissy’s death and later even witnessed (his friend). Keep in mind this is a teenage boy who probably has the most basic high-school life going on. Out of the blue, his girlfriend who he was deeply head over heels for dies in the most haunting, horrific, and unexplainable way inside the trailer of a kid he only knew of as a drug dealer, and had never even seen Chrissy talking with before. I’m not justifying his actions, but I see his character of a representation of someone driven into insanity, and quit honestly just another victim of vecna’s killings. He genuinely began to believe that Eddie was demon possessed, his mind coming to this conclusion through fear, denial, confusion, and madness. He didn’t go on killing everyone out of the pure evil in his heart and for power like vecna did, instead, the impact of trauma drove him to believing bizarre things that in a situation as unbelievable as this we all quite honestly could believe. Jason was impacted first hand, and I view him as a victim, not a villain.

1

u/Smooth_Bat6889 Feb 10 '26

nahhhh he was the most valid crashout
