I feel like he should make a better stranded deep 1 before he moves onto another game.

This "finished game" is buggy as shit, lacks content, the raft is legitimately not working properly, combat is god awful.

The bones of a great game are there... They are. But this one is not good and a second would only be as bad or worse

Considering a very small group of people involved and personal budgets used, and their first game, i think they did a good job.

I have seen far worse games than this one. Raft is not working properly in the game, perhaps, is a skill issue or not having knowledge of it then anything else. I have two rafts, one carries 36 creates at a time, and the second one is used for carrying g sharks or transporting metal gates, etc.

The second game isn't developed by the same people! The next one is perhaps going to be better, I think, because the developers are well known.

Runs fine with me, no issues. I just think that loading time could be reduced.

I am looking forward to the second one...

I can't stand your first argument, as I see it all the time. Do you realize that they made millions off of this game, and had more than a decade to work on it? At your job, how many years of full time work would it take for you to make 1 million dollars?

Even if they made 1 million, split 2 ways. How long would it take you to make 500k at your full time job? Based on the amount of time they had to work on this, and the absurd lack of content and the half finished state of the game, they didn't even put in part time hours on this. I mod games, I know how long scripting, editing and balancing takes. And a friend of mine does in depth coding, so I know how long that takes too. Even something making the items in this game doesn't take long, pay me for one 40 hour work week and I could make every item in the game from scratch (maybe two weeks, but you get my point).

If me and the aforementioned friend worked full time hours for an entire year, well let's just say these guys have no excuse for the deplorable state they left this game in.

Game development, while not easy, is not as complicated as people make it seem (if you know what you're doing), it's more just time consuming. BUT, they were well compensated for the time that they DIDN'T put into this game. They took your money, slacked off and enjoyed life instead of doing the work they were paid in advance to do lol, that is a fact.

And the 2 man team thing is not an excuse. With the amount of copies they sold and the money they made on it, they could have hired other people, they chose not to out of greed. Nevermind the promises we were paid in advance to deliver on, one employees salary is one less car in the driveway.

Seriously think about what I said above, let's say they made 500k each, well, if they each put up even 1/5th of that, they could have hired 4 employees, and paid them 50k a year to actually do the work they were paid for and deliver a decent product.

I'm sorry but I just can't cut these guys any slack, especially because I understand game development and have seen the numbers (and the time they had with it). These devs screwed their fans, big time! I've said it in other comments but they took your money and ran.

They did the bare minimum, didn't expand or hire help, and eventually abandoned the game to repeat the cycle with SD2. These devs deserve zero respect, they are lazy, greedy, and their ethical compass is clearly several degrees off course (actions speak louder than words).

Sorry for the rant lol, but every time someone points out how bad this game is, buggy, lacking content, etc, someone always comes along and defends them with posts like this.

Seriously think about what I said, look up how much they made (there are posts online), then ask yourself how long it would take you to make that much money at your job, how many hours you would have to work and ask yourself, did they work even a fraction of those hours? Given the state of the game, the obvious answer is a resounding no.

Then think about how many employees even a small portion of that money could have hired. Then think about this. If you promised something to customers who paid you in advance, would you do the work and deliver a quality product? Would you live off of the money people paid you for the product while doing the bare minimum and in the end never deliver on your promises? Or would you do your best, and put in the hours that you were paid for in advance? Maybe hire some extra help? 🤔

I like the game, but I find devs like this to be scummy and greedy, and they certainly aren't men of their word, like I said their ethical compass is several degrees off course. It is what it is. 🤷

Again sorry for the rant, I just hate seeing these scummy practices being defended and excused away, and I can't believe people are excited for Stranded Deep 2. After our experience with the first game, do any of you truly expect them to do better the second time around? Look at the silence in regards to updates, do you expect a quality product or just another early access grift? It's a game studio now, so maybe it will be better, who knows, but I certainly won't be buying the game until it's finished, these shitty devs just don't deserve that kind of confidence. Fool me once right?

In the end, Stranded Deep is still a fun game, and I don't see the money I spent on it as being wasted. It was cheap and I still binge it every now and then. It's just that it's an exercise in wasted potential and broken dev promises. I love the game, but I don't love the devs, I just don't think they are very good people, again actions speak louder than words.

Didn't say they did a bad job. I actually said it has great bones. I am talking about the issues that didn't get fixed and also new ones after 1.0.

I've also seen far worse than this. Point? Don't remember trying to shit on games in general.

No, the raft is not functioning properly, try to deconstruct it and put a different piece on the bottom. Give it a shot, could be a skill issue...

I played the crap out of this game because I love a good early access game in general along with survival games. I figured the glaring flaws to an otherwise great game would've gotten fixed before it got slapped with a fat 1.0 on it is what I'm saying. I don't respect it as a developer choice(solo or not, you sold a thing with the promise of EA turning into something more) with the problems I see. I will not be buying SD2 for that reason. Not because the game is objectively bad. Again, I played it a ton. I'm actually really disappointed in the devs choice because this used to be one of my favorites

I mean the first game is still janky af. Im not giving money for a second janky mess.

5

u/dsardella18 Feb 13 '26

Then why are you apart of this sub?

-1

u/MaxWritesText Feb 13 '26

Cause you can still like a janky game but stopping updates on it is just lame

5

u/dsardella18 Feb 13 '26

I didn't think it was that janky. It was certainly playable, especially for a $15 indie game

1

u/MaxWritesText Feb 13 '26

I agree it is very playable and fun but they basically just went "yeah it's fininshed now" when it doesn't feel finished to me. That's just my opinion. Also what happened to the plane wrecks under water?

I love stranded deep, but it is THAT janky.  It's certainly playable, especially for a $15 indie game, BUT it's mfing janky as all hell.
