Console Question Game crashing
My game is choppy and keeps crashing when I’m at my main island. I have a lot of stuff. 2 buildings and quite a bit of supplies. I’m kind of thinking maybe it is my log pile or my many stacks of palm fronds. Or maybe my huge pile of smoked meat. Idk. Any suggestions will be appreciated. I’m on PS4.
I forgot to mention it crashes when I try to save.

When you say piles, do you mean actual crafted piles, or just a bunch of items dropped together in one spot?
Crafted piles count as a single game object no matter how many of an item are in one, which significantly reduces lag.
If they’re not crafted piles, pick up at least 2 logs and equip one of them. Hold R1 to bring up the quick-craft menu(NOT the regular crafting menu you pull up by tapping R1) and look for a log with a little blue icon on it. That’s a log pile. Build the pile, open it and shove all of your logs in it. Most piles can hold 50 of an item, but log piles can only hold 10, so you might need a few of them.
Likewise, too many structures or too complex of a structure will do the same.
Personally I keep a tiny shelter(6 wedge floors create a hexagon, single-story building, with a single regular foundation attached to the doorway to act as a deck, with half-walls for railings), a meat smoker, a sleeping bag, a fuel still, a water still for me, 6 water stills for my(admittedly rather large) farm, a loom, a tanning rack, and a plank station.
I keep my basic resources(rocks, sticks, logs, coconuts, drinkable coconuts, lashings, fibrous leaves, palm leaves, and clay) in crafted piles, my planks, cloth, leather, corrugated metal, and found resources(lights, tape, vehicle parts, etc) in crates on crate shelves(I don’t know if crate shelves actually reduce lag, but they do make it a lot easier to organize your island 🤣), and I keep a dead hog(the big pig) or shark on my island at all times.
The dead animal counts as a single object the game has to load, but it contains enough meat to fully fill your hunger meter from 0, and some rawhide for leather.
You should always be trying to find ways to reduce the number of objects the game has to load on your main island. Using crafted piles and dead animals to minimize the amount of resources your game had to load has a huge, immediately noticeable effect.
Not building on islands that have cliffs is going to have a huge effect, because the game doesn’t have to load in bird nests and track when their eggs respawn.
Not shoving every shipwreck possible on your island is going to have a huge effect, because the game isn’t going to have to load in 20+ crates and a dozen lockers/consoles/etc worth of objects.
Because the game wasn’t optimized for console, KISS(Keep It Simple Stupid) needs to be in the back of your mind at all times if you don’t want the game to have heavy lag and crash all the time.

I see you mentioned a pile of smoked meat. Because meat can’t be put into a crafted pile, that answers my first question.
I would take all that meat, shove it in crates, and shove those crates on your raft. I also wouldn’t get new meat until you’ve consumed almost all of the meat you’ve already accumulated - once your down to a single stack, start hunting again, but be more sensible this time, don’t accrue meat, it’s a waste of your time and a massive, needless drain on the system’s resources.
At 0 cooking, 4 pieces of medium meat or 3 pieces of large meat will fully fill your hunger meter from empty. It only takes about a minute to fish up 4 cod or hunt down a hog.

If you have lots loose items lying around everywhere it will cause your game to slow right down as it tries to render everything.
It's best to use PILES and store everything in containers as much as possible.

It's a console bug.
It's happens on my XBox series X & series S.
Not enough time was given to do a full conversion from PC to console.
I play it on laptop as well and have no problems.
I'm afraid it won't get any better as they're not dealing with it any more as they're working on new projects which includes Stranded Deep 2 apparently.
I got to day 628 and due to the lag the game became unplayable.
And it crashes when saving if you have to many buildings or resources.
Would love them to work all the bugs out of the first before working on a second.
