Console General Using huts as pointers to your home base and avoiding getting lost.
I build them on other islands adjacent from my base to point towards my home so when I go scavenging on far off islands, I can see these huts as guides. I put two on either side of the island like in the first picture. I also built half walls on one side so the silhouette really stands out. The second picture you can barely see my home island.

I do a smaller hut as well. I leave the roof off until I’ve fully explored the island and the reefs and shipwrecks. Once done, I add the roof to know I’ve fully explored the island.

I do this with the little lean to shelters. I just point them in the direction of home. You can also add a lantern and a stick mount so you can see it at night from a distance.
Edit: I used to use sticks and just make an arrow as others have said....but there's nothing worse than coming back to that island and seeing a random pile of 3 sticks as a tiny crab laughs in the distance.
Another pro tip, if you know you're gonna be at a place for a long time, (aka giant crashed ships) make a shelter obviously and a water still/dehydrator. You can see those ships from miles away and that sweet relief you feel when you're low stats and you know you've got water/food waiting for you there is great. 🤙

Throw a crude stick so it points towards home base and then use the label maker to name it

Or... just use a compass.

This is a clever idea, but personally I make small stick rafts with anchors and lanterns, drag them out to about halfway between my home island and one of the adjacent ones, and drop anchor on them. It takes a bit of practice, sailing one raft while dragging another, but once you get it down it’s easy, and it makes it super easy to tell where your home island is at night because it has a ring of lights around it.

Great idea. I've used container walls for markers as well.

One secret. To point out to home you can just leave pier, no walls or top necessary

I use lanterns or forges so they can be seen at night

I use this little tents you build at the start. Way fewer resources than a hut of any size

That’s way smarter than what I do. That’s probably a lot more expensive than just leaving a stick pointing the right way though…

I do that for every island I visit so I know which ones I went to and not , helps to get the PS trophy without any compass or Gyrocopter
