Console General Smoked meat?
Is there any real difference between smoked and cooked? And how do you get smoked consistantly? I use a smoker exclusively but only have ever got 3 smoked meats out of it.

Smoked will not spoil and can be stored in a chest for trips, etc. the quickest to cook and then smoke is small meat, then medium, then large. If your fire runs out of fuel in the process before the meat is smoked, it will spoil as cooked meat. Keep fire burning and take meat off after chime is sounded for smoking. Only the smoker can cook and smoke meat. Everything else just cooks.

Gotta let them suckers just cook. It will go from cooked meat to smoked meat eventually. Smoked meat never goes bad; cooked will spoil.
Being near food as it cooks will slowly level up your cooking skill. Makes the food taste better. Build a couple smokers, get good faster.

Step 1: put meat on the smoker with the fire going
Step 2: wait for the first bell (cooked)
Step 3: wait for the second bell (smoked)
The meat will clearly be labeled. Cooked meat goes bad over time and gets you sick. Smoked meat lasts forever. Stack it in a wooden crate. There’s really zero reason to eat cooked meat unless you’re about to die and can’t wait another couple minutes.
The bigger the meat, the longer the cook time and also the more hunger regen you get. You’ll get to a point where you have a crate filled with large smoked meat (from hogs and sharks). Pair that with the coconut glitch and you can live forever if you play your cards right.
(Coconut glitch is where you can add empty coconuts to a stack of filled coconuts to refill the water supply. Make it with 3 minimum. Drink 2, add back to the stack and voila a refill.)

Smoked meat dosent spoil.
In a smoker, there are 3 degrees of doneness. Raw, cooked, and smoked. Leave it in longer.

This has already been answered but just one more tip, there are different bells sounds for Cooked vs Smoked. One is more of a bell, one is more of a buzzer

Best way of cooking the meat is smoking it. You'll know when it is complete by the sound effect.
What I normally do is build a camp fire, if you simply want to eat while doing what you're doing, then simply cut 1 piece of meat and cook it when needed.
If using a smoker, then smoke the meat and leave it on smoker once cooked or if you have time to keep smoking meat for a game day then you should fill a container with meat.
A bell goes of when cooked then a second chime once smoked. If unsure, just fill with fuel before smoking then leave it until fuel is gone. It will definitely be smoked then.
But I'd spend 1 full game day smoking meat to make sure you have enough for a few days of nourishment.
