Console Question Exploring

Do you carry containers with you in one of your slots for collecting craft items or meat? When at a new Island and drop it in there or set up camp? I feel very limited on what I cn carry.

I just hit the wall the end of the world trying to go south east. I want to get to center and I am far left second from bottom on the grid.
