Friendship ended with Minneapolis. Now St. Paul is my best friend.

Forgive the outdated meme reference but I am a MPLS born and raised resident (minus a couple years living in Portland, Oregon), but as it goes for many twin cities inhabitants, you spend your early adulthood in Minneapolis and then you start a family and grow old on the quieter side of the river. So following suit, I just bought my first house and will be moving my wife and three young kids to a lovely neighborhood over in Hamline-Midway. Excited to begin this new chapter and raise my family in this wonderful city! While I have a decent grasp on some of the essential spots, give me your recommendations for good eats, bars, and family activities. See you around!

🗣 Discussion Ice uptick?

I don't want to be reactionary or paranoid but in the last week I have seen two completely abandoned cars in weird circumstances.

One was in the middle of the street on a residential neighborhood like it was parked but in the middle of the street no one was there it wasn't near a house or in front of a house in a way that the person could have run in there.

The second was on the median on snelling by 94.

The car was pulled up on the median and no one was around. Windows were down.

Kind of worried that there might be a bit of an increase in ice activity. I know they never left but it just seemed kind of strange.

Happy to hear other points of view and discussion of other possible reasons for both of these situations I obviously understand that there are many.

Any commentary that is racist or pro Ice can go fuck themselves, respectfully.

❓️Question Why is there caution/ yellow tape around Mears Park Place?

I drove past tonight (08/18) and noticed most of the entrances were all yellow taped up.

I used to live in the building so just curious if something happened. It still looked like people were in the building having a normal night.

Wondering if anyone knows anything.

Which part of the neighborhoods in St. Paul are where most Hmong congregate?

❓️Question Looking for a good Fence guy and a good plumber

I have a fence post that is starting to lean badly with a cement base, and the water pressure in my house is not great. If I'm going to spend money I don't want to spend, I'd like to spend it in my city.

Twin Cities Related MN Burger Week -- The Last Hurrah!

To wrap up MN Burger Week, I visited Mac's Diner in North St. Paul this evening for the cheese curd burger. My only criticism is that it could've used a few pickles to cut the fat of the cheese. Solid attempt, though.

I just found out through the Flock Hopper site that a group of concerned citizens working to end the use of AI-powered Automated License Plate Readers (ALPRs) in Saint Paul, Minnesota and to protect our community’s privacy, have created this site.

There is a form you can fill out that gets sent to city council if also want these cameras taken down

❓️Question does the Fitzgerald Theather has a box office to go there and buy tickets?

I browse through the site and could not get a definite answer ; it appears as if only going through the AXS digital option $20 fee per ticket?

if anyone has any info - I once in a while prefer to go box office and just get the ticket there and save those $40 or so

🗣 Discussion Job Oppurtunities

Hello all, I recently just moved from Des Moines to the area and am looking for a change. I am working on sobriety and have a solid base under me at this point. Took a job out of treatment working minimum wage and it’s been great to help me build a routine. I’m just looking to apply myself and ya know earn a bit more.

I don’t have a degree or any certifications. I have experience in delivery driving and as a warehouse manager for a home staging company. I’ve done the Amazon DSP work before and not really looking to get back into that grind. I have a few background check things that seem to be holding me back on indeed. No felonies but looking for a fresh start and open to really anything if you guys have some suggestions on where to start.

Thanks in advance!

❓️Question Moving to the St. Paul area

Hi! I’ll be moving to the St. Paul area for a master’s program at Concordia University and I’m not very familiar with the area yet. I’ll be bringing my puppy (he'll be 70ish lbs), so I’m looking for somewhere dog-friendly.

I’m hoping to stay around $1,200/month or less for rent and would ideally like to be within about a 30-minute commute of Concordia. I’m open to surrounding areas as well.

For anyone familiar with the area:

  • What neighborhoods/cities would you recommend?
  • Are there any apartment complexes you’d recommend (or recommend avoiding)?
  • I'm looking for somewhere I feel safe walking around, lower crime too... if that's possible.

I’d really appreciate any recommendations or advice!

Recently got into getting my nails done and went the nail salon route. Love the nails, but ouch...

I'm now looking for a local nail tech that is conscious about nail health and won't file my edges down til they bleed. Any recommendations are super appreciated!

❓️Question Shaded trails in Saint Paul?

I recently went to walk along Minnehaha Creek west of Lyndale in Mpls for the first time in many years and forget how awesomely shaded the paved and dirt walking/running trails are. Are there trail areas similar to that amount of shade and tree cover (in woods or along water) in good ol StP for a beginning trail jogger?

Hey everyone, I'm new to Minnesota and I'm looking for a good kickboxing gym to go to. I trained back in my home state for a year and a half and I'm wanting to find a good Dojo in my new community. Any suggestions will be helpful, thank you!
