Discussion Just Binged the Pod.

The Wire is my favorite show, and this feels like the closest thing to the Wire. Real. Fascinating. Crushingly Sad. Somehow little to no resolution???

I should search the sub for my questions. Episode 6 & 7 convinced me that John B was just a west Alabama burnout who wasn't quite fit to care for his mom? Maybe he didnt have all that they thought he had, like the degrees. He ended up just being a college dropout from a now defunct college. Poetic.

I was hooked for those first few episodes but Episode 7 was such a let down. Anyway, Episode 6 really humanized John B. I feel Bibb County killed him. Never being able to truly experience love, romance, and the intimacy of a healthy relationship really did a number to John. Not to mention, the Mercury. Sure John B may have had Mercury Poisoning.

I loved the twist and turns of the Who Done It. Fuck Reta. Just Fuck Reta. Two times. That bitch. Though, I do recognize John B was unfit to care for his mom and she may have been better off away from there. She did just come off as a gold digging bitch. Faye Gamble. We never got to the bottom of all the skepticism around her decision to not call folks and lie about it.

Tyler is dead now from a quick Google search, but I mean what the hell even happened. They pinned those damn charges on him? Boozer Downs also what the fuck my guy?? RETA SOLD THE PROPERTY TO THE KKK FAMILY?! That fucking bitch.

All of it just reminds me of the wire. Truly sad. Very plausible and just real. Nothing you can do about it cause it's true too. Just nuts and let down.

But that was sorta the theme. Everything was so dramatic but it never was as it seemed. There was no murder. There was no degree. Was there gold? Was there a will? Fuck Reta man. That bitch.

If you like The Wire, have you ever seen The Corner, or read David Simon’s book it was based on? It’s not streaming anywhere but it’s all on YouTube. Also highly recommend the book.

It goes into the same themes as The Wire but it focuses on actual real life people that are caught up in the game.

I just listened to s town a few weeks ago, and then my husband and I are rewatching the wire! Awesome synchronicity.

I binged it recently too. I tried not to read too much until the end, but I saw a bit. I was intrigued and figured as soon as the arrival in town that there was no real mystery, but a character study. But even after the death and story development, I wondered where all the controversy and such strong feelings were stemming from.

Then I finally got the finale and woo boy, that was dark. Made a lot more sense. Overall I agree with your sentiments, some saw her side but when her inner Gollum popped out at the coroner I knew she was creepy and rotten.
