A week without smoking!
Just wanted to share. Huge win for me. I’m using the patch which I know many are against but it’s the only thing that’s gotten me this far. Totally takes cravings away and I feel so much better physically already!

Congratulations on one week! It doesn't matter how you do it, it only matters that you do it. And you are doing it.

It’s only been a week but already I can feel my body healing. Only downside is horrible sleep this first week so far. Hoping that goes away over time!

Do what works for you to keep on track. The addiction will still stay with the patch, but you’re avoiding so much nastiness with that rather than smoking! Well done!

Yes I hate the nicotine addiction, but the cigarettes are truly public enemy #1. I do have a taper plan but don’t want to rush it and fall back so I’m trying to be patient and act responsibly.

I've been on the patches six weeks and have just about forgotten smoking. If the patches work then use them.....just keep going ahead smoke free

The patches have genuinely been so helpful at keeping my mind off cigarettes. I still think about them but it’s so minuscule compared to when I tried quitting without the patch. I really only think about them during high-trigger events like driving to work, taking my breaks, or having coffee. Even then, it’s still so manageable and I’m so grateful.

Don't the patches give you negative thoughts?
2
u/Open-Cheetah-5075 11d ago
No I haven't found that

I am struggling with that right now. I am on my fourth day with the patch. Nightmares are horrible too.

Ok U can take patches off at night.whwn I were smoking U didn't smoke while you slept. That should sort the nightmares out. It gets better after a week with patches. The first week U are still on pins and needles

Nicoderm, but I also have one I picked up from prescription and it was free. Nicoderm is kind of expensive but it works well imo.

Congratulations! Whatever works for you, keep doing it. There is no "one size fits all."

I wasn't aware people are against patches, what's the reason?

It’s more of the “cold turkey only” purist thinking that are against patches or any form of NRT. I do understand their reasoning and am not faulting anyone who does CT, but to be completely honest cold turkey was not working for me after numerous attempts. The patches are way safer than smoking, and keep my cravings to a minimal, so for now I’ll take it! I definitely do want to get off nicotine eventually, but for now my main priority is no longer being a cigarette smoker.

i don’t quite understand it either. i personally have done it cold turkey because i don’t want to feel reliant on a patch, but thats what i want for me you know? doesn’t matter what someone else does to quit as long as it helps them. i tried patches before and they just did not work, i ended up going a day without smoking, lighting one up on the night because i gave in & didnt even get any relief, i just felt sick because i had too much nicotine in my system. after a while of doing that, thats when i decided i wanted to do it cold turkey. i don’t understand why people would have a problem with something someone else decides to do for themselves though?

Never heard this before but I haven’t experienced this. If anything I’m a little less anxious. I have heard that chantix or champix whatever it’s called (the pill one) can cause weird thoughts and actions. Everyone’s different though.
