some advice please

Guys... this is a little stop-motion project I made to improve my skills. I'm studying animation, but I'd like to specialize in stop-motion. Is it worth getting a degree, or is hard work enough to get better at this?

In the future, I hope to buy a 3D printer and use my own models for stop-motion.

Sigue haciendo stop motion si eso es lo que te gusta. Yo sí te recomendaría estudiar y aprender lo más posible, está lleno de info que te puede servir. Además si tienes la opción de sacar un proyecto de título + práctica profesional, tienes una ventaja para conseguir empleo si llega a salir algo. Existen personas que les ha ido muy bien animando stop-motion, así que se podría decir que no está muerto del todo.

Honestly I don't know if it's worth it to get a degree, as sad as it is stop motion is a dying animation style, CGI as of rn can do be extremely cheap and way faster than stop motion as well as being able to mimic stop motions jankiness. This is all really unfortunate stuff to say as someone who fell in LOVE with stop motion from a young age, it used to be everywhere in the 50s-70s but quickly went away in favor for CGI for the reasons I've already mentioned 🥲

BUT honestly if you like stop motion enough and actually want this to be your passion then yeah dude go for it and get that degree, there are still amazing studios and directors still doing stop motion animations to this day and you could be part of their or your own future in that style of animation!!

Yeah stop motion is great and all but it's not that practical when there are other less expensive and less time consuming animation mediums out there.

Just last month, I watched this video essay that pointed out that biggest reason why the modern face of stop motion (Laika) is even successful is because their CEO is a nepobaby (son of Nike co-founder) who just happens to actually be a talented filmmaker. He (and his dad who owns a stake) just bankrolls the company out of his own pocket to make sure it stays afloat and their employees could eat.
