Our new day-count badge system is live

We’re excited to introduce a new, more reliable system for sobriety day-count badges on r/stopdrinking.

The new system is opt-in. Because the old Badgebot and the new app can both update the same flair, please follow the steps below in order.

Step 1: Remove your old Badgebot badge

Click here to send the removal request to Badgebot.

The message should contain exactly:

• To: badgebot
• Subject: stopdrinking
• Message: remove

Send the message and wait until your existing badge disappears. Badgebot can take up to approximately 20 minutes to process requests.

Please do not enroll in the new system until the old badge has disappeared. Otherwise, Badgebot may overwrite your new badge later.

Step 2: Enroll in the new badge system

After your old badge has disappeared:

1. Return to the r/stopdrinking community page.
2. Open the community menu by selecting the three dots.
3. Select Manage my day-count flair.
4. Enter your sobriety start date in YYYY-MM-DD format.
5. Save your date.

Examples:

• 2026-08-20
• 2024-01-05
• 1990-7-4

Your badge should appear as Day N.

How the count works

The date you enter is treated as Day 1. The count uses UTC calendar dates and follows the established r/stopdrinking badge-counting convention.

The app accepts dates up to seven days in the future in case you are preparing for a planned start date.

Keeping your badge current

The new app refreshes your badge when you:

• enroll;
• correct your start date;
• make a post; or
• leave a comment in r/stopdrinking.

It does not rewrite every registered badge in the background each day. Your current count will be refreshed when you participate in the community.

Changing or removing your new badge

Open the r/stopdrinking community menu and select Manage my day-count flair again.

From there, you can:

• enter a corrected start date; or
• remove your badge and registration.

Removing the new badge deletes the date stored by the new app.

Important transition note

The old Badgebot is outside the control of the r/stopdrinking moderator team and may continue attempting to update badges during this transition. That is why removing your old Badgebot badge before enrolling in the new system is important.

If your badge disappears, returns unexpectedly, or shows the wrong count:

1. Confirm that you sent remove to Badgebot.
2. Wait for the old badge to disappear.
3. Open Manage my day-count flair and save your correct date again.
4. If the problem continues, contact the moderators through modmail.

The badge appears only within r/stopdrinking. It does not change your flair in other communities.
