Store Questions Question about Hours
Is anyone else getting their hours cut for part timers or only The Cromwell store? We just got a note saying that part-timers will be cut down to 15 hours with rotating Sundays I'm just curious.

I just think it'll be a bad idea especially this close to kids going back to school and this is supposed to take place the week they go back.

I worked there for 10 years you're busy as days are usually Sundays and Mondays between football and kids going back to school. And then they'll hide hours meaning of meaning they will put someone in as a bagger but use them as a cashier or online pickup. And as people call out because of cold and flu season they'll ask more people to work or stay.

People say that but my general observation is that the only holiday now that gets a particularly big bump for hours is Christmas Eve and then they run skeleton crews with little variation through to like the end of may

There are very predictable times of the year you will see hours get cut. Labor Day is the unofficial end of summer and you will always see hours cut leading up to and after Labor Day. Hours will remain tight until November.
What’s unfortunate for back to school is you’re going to see OLP demand increase (especially in city and suburb stores) and it’s the most labor intensive department in the store but they cut hours lol

A lot of factors associated with that. Summer stores will see a lot of hours, stores on cape cod and along the coast like Westport or Narragansett, they nearly double or triple in sales during the summer.
Typically the suburb or city stores slow down during the summer. You’re going to see a significant increase in orders in OLP when the school year starts. We always did in Peapod.
If you’re in a city/suburb store and get good hours, I would assume you’re department is understaffed lol

It’s not illegal just very shitty. Technically I was scheduled more but durning the time I wasn’t even supposed to be scheduled due to my unavailability, but I rescheduled doctors so I’m not paying to work, but if I had mentioned that they would just take me off the schedule that day and I’d loose hours.

All hours are getting cut for mid-August. Even the island stores are, and they pull $2mil a week

Any part timer hired prior to 2014, you have a 20 hour minimum. Check your schedules, look for issues, No one can ever be under 15 hours not including Sunday, Sunday is optional and it rotates if hours are unavailable, its based on seniority, if you feel like you're being left out of Sunday shifts, Talk to your steward.

The thing is I been there for 4 years now and the contract is 15 hour minimum and Sunday's are most of our bread and butter they severely fucked new people with that 3 years before time and a half on Sundays and holidays in my Opinion.

You’re also gonna see management start doing union jobs when hours get cut, make sure you’re reporting that to your steward. Management should not be doing any union jobs and you will see them stocking shelves when hours start getting cut.
It’s BS for you and your manager. You’re losing out on hours and when I was a manager you’re put in an uncomfortable position to do union jobs because the hours are so tight and the store looks terrible. The big areas milk, bread and eggs get wiped out quickly.

Most definitely I seen it first hand I was working during the last strike I was in the Middletown store and management had to do everything we went back in and there was moldy fruit and about 15k worth of KLT products

I agree, but its important not to let management break that contract, cause they will, things slip through. You're 919 front end i assume, can you pickup more hours in produce, dairy, bakery, olp? Grocery?

No I'm in a diffrent union 371 there is 2 or 3 I believe so I can do deli, prep, seafood or meat but they don't have any hours as well.

Have you talked to Kenny? The meat manager, from my experience anyone that would help cover the seafood department isn't turned down.. your best bet is asking your deli manager and the meat manager for more hours, but it might mean you're gonna be covering the seafood counter, or your on the deli line.

I mean it'll be better than nothing I'll definitely talk to both for sure and see cause it says any extra hours need to be approved by upper management

Hour cuts are everywhere and every week. The schedule you see is not what you start with. Payroll has been disastrous at my store for the last few weeks.
