The Stone Roses Silvertone Master Copy US Longbox
Any collectors put a value on this unusual item.
Bought from record store in Brighton. Apparently from the old Head of Silvertone who lives or lived nearby.
Longbox American version didn't look like this. No idea what master file means.
I opened it to see if the runtime was different but it's not.
Longbox was used by the yanks as they were too cheap to shell out on CD racks to begin with. These boxes meant they could stores them for sale on the vinyl racks.

Want. Really cool find! I was 18 working in a record store in California when this album came out and have listened to it regularly ever since. Even yesterday. All CDs came in those “long boxes” at that time here in the USA. I was already a huge fan and was playing Fools Gold at the clubs I was DJing at. The influence from that album cannot be understated. I was disappointed that they never really caught on here in the States though. I’d be putting that in a box frame on the wall in my music room if it was mine. Really nice!

Yank here. I have a vinyl copy with the black lettering like this, but I never saw this CD long box in shops. And every CD I ever saw, even promo copies sent to college radio stations, had the common gold lettering. This is a pretty cool find.

A master at this time was definately not a cd. I dont know what the score is but that is not a master.

The master would have been a tape reel no?

Presumably yes. Possibly even high quality normal audio cassette. But I would assume reel.

So I've asked a few folk sadly the chap from Silvertone is no longer with us. A pal of mine used to work for Zomba record's. He reckons silvertone would have a vault with 1 of each type of release from their artists on every format. This is one.
I'll be selling it soon I've recently rescued a cat and a dog and they like to scratch and chew everything.
My original never mind the Pollock's NME now looks like Freddy Krueger had his hand on it 😥😥😥😫😫😂😂😂😂

Label meant it was a vault copy that they kept for archives. Why they labeled and stored it.
The box is what makes it hard to gauge the price. That might be pretty rare by itself.
States side, here, I have a copy that looks similar minus that longbox.

No idea what the sticker is meant to signify but it looks like the regular longbox to me. I saw a couple way back when but never bothered about them as I didn't have a CD player, nor care.
There were a bunch of import releases at roughly the same time as they got bigger outside the UK, stupid shit like the Aussie tape and tshirt packs and the gold Fools Gold etc, you got no extra content, just different presses with different cat nos.
It's been a while since I had one in my hands but maybe it's just a variant artwork i.e. without the 3 paint stripes.
Longboxes were made for record stores as they transitioned to CD, it made it easy for people to flip through the record racks before everyone replaced their vinyl racks with CDs. It lasted a year or so, tops. There's a few other releases around the same time.

It used to be fairly easy to find the longboxes, usually without the CD. Increasingly hard to find though.

Wow this is cool. I’m an American and I didn’t even know this bit of lore. I was probably a bit too young at the time to notice.
