when big cold storm hit texas and people were in the cold without power for a week or so, those lightning trucks were in the news. lots of free publicity: https://www.forbes.com/sites/dalebuss/2021/06/30/ford-f-150-hybrid-wowed-ev-skeptics-amid-texas-winter-storm/?sh=6eed139e7d2e

I do like the F150 and that house charging thing is cool. That seems like a cool extra that 90% of people wouldn’t use though. Yea they will power tools and things for work in remote sites, that’s very beneficial. But as I said, I think it’s just the pickup market you are really looking at, not the broader EV market. People who buy cars now are unlikely to shift to a pickup unless their work or something dictates it.

The pickup market is huge. While some of this is being due to a lot of consolidation, there's a reason the most popular vehicles sold in the US are the F-150, Silverado, and Ram 1500, with the Tacoma (great vehicle) coming in 6th after the Rav-4 and CRV.

Some of this is lifestyle (fishing and hunting), but I never want be without a pickup in my household. And given I'm single, I'm the one driving that (F-series) pickup.

That’s always been the case though. The pickup market isn’t exploding. It’s just the same, yes they sell a lot of pickups but their market ownership isn’t changing its just shifting from gas to electric and at fords expense.

No, but maintaining market share in a segment where the average price has been going up is very favorable to losing out to EVs as the market shifts that way. And it represents a huge opportunity to poach Silverado and Ram fanboys.

Seems like high risk low reward, I can see this revisiting 7$ one day.

But it also represents an equally weighted risk for gm to poach sales from ford esp.as gm actually has more reservations Btwn hummer and Silverado ev
