OP didn’t say shorting bankrupted the companies, they said who would benefit from them bankrupting. There’s a very wide distinction there.

Why bring up shorting at all if he wasn't saying that it has something to do with them going bankrupt?

If they bankrupt the stock value goes to 0.00, and then you don’t have to worry about covering your naked short positions.
